Champion sprinter VOLCANIC GENERAL has struck again, this
time winning the Perak Gold Vase for the second consecutive year after
finishing second in the 1100m sprint over the straight course in 2017.
Trainer Charles Leck has been careful in not over-taxing
the son of Magnus since the gelding arrived on the scene in early 2017,
winning the Tunku Gold Cup in his debut.
VOLCANIC GENERAL was beaten into second place in the same
race last year but was awarded the Cup on protest. He made it a hat-trick in
his seasonal debut last March.
VOLCANIC GENERAL, a winner five races in Australia
including three at Caulfield, also captured the Penang Sprint Trophy in
2017. In two and a half years, he has started just 12 times for six wins and

outside rails throughout, settling just off the pace with the 16-strong
field well spread out from the start.
