BE YOU got his career off to a winning start when he won his racing debut the Restricted Maiden - 1200m event at Kranju here today, emulating the feat of his full brother BE BEE on this track three years ago.

BE BEE then claimed the Group 2 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe in his next start and went on to chalked up four more wins including the Group 3 Singapore Three-Year-Old Sprint. He last won a Class 1 sprint in January last year.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, BE YOU, purchased by his owner for NZ$170,000 as a yearling, has a later start to his career (as a three-year-old), but still able to show his potential with a 1 1/2-length win.

They’re very much alike, but I think BE YOU has more scope. I reckon he can go further, 1400m to a mile," said trainer Shane Baertschiger. "He’s still learning, like today, he jumped at that shadow at the 800m."
