Lim's Kosciuszko wins Singapore Derby

Despite eight wins in 11 starts to his name, LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO has yet to win a group race. Both his trainer and jockey Dan Meagher and jockey Danny Beasley have not won the Singapore Derby in all the years they have been plying their trade at Kranji.

All that changed today when LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO, using a crossover noseband after his defeats in his last three starts, fought his way to victory in the Singapore Group 1 over 1800m.

The Australian gelding enjoyed the run of the race in second spot behind the pacemaker CON SPERANZA who held on to his advantage till less 100m out.

At this stage SUPER IMPACT was about to make his presence felt and just then RELENTLESS, who was denied a run from the top of the straight, finally managed to find a gap to after the leaders.

RELENTLESS, winner of the Stewards' Cup (1400m) three weeks ago when he beat LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO, was "flying" at the finish but the winning came too soon. LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO won by a head with SUPER IMPACT a neck away third.

"Danny rode him beautifully," said Meagher. "We’ve been trying to get him settle in his trackwork, it’s been a bit difficult but teamwork makes the dream come true, it's fantastic."
