Woodworth and Saifudin off the mark

Louis-Philippe Beuzelin enjoyed of his better days in Singapore when he booted home three winners, AMORE AMORE, CELAVI and SPIRIT OF BIG BANG, at Kranji here this afternoon.

But for Malaysian jockeys Benny Woodworth and Saifudin Ismail, it was a memorable day for the two veterans as well.

Former MRA champion jockey Woodworth returned to riding in Singapore this month after stints abroad in Mauritius, Dubai and France.

Unsuccessful in six previous attempts, Woodworth broke through with his first ride of the day on NO MORE DELAY in the Novice - 1200m sprint.

Woodworth was seen at his best when he got the Zoustar gelding home a head in front of WAR COMMANDER after thrilling duel in the final 200m.

It was the second win in five runs and the first start of the season for the Australian gelding.

"I’m not surprised he won first-up. I expected him to run good," said Woodworth. "He cantered on Tuesday morning with me, and he felt fresh."

For Saifudin, it was a much longer wait. He had to endure a losing sequence of 80 rides since the start of the season before scoring in a nail-biting finish on I'M A CONQUEROR in the Class 5, Div 2 - 1100m handicap.

I'M A CONQUEROR prevailed in a three-way photo to beat DECRETO by a nose with HIGH LIMIT a further nose back in third place.

"I feel very relieved! I’m so lucky, we won by a nose," said Saifudin, who has been in the saddle for 35 years and one of a few jockeys to have ridden at the Bukit Timah racecourse.

Saifudin actually rode the Alamosa gelding in his maiden win three years ago. I’M A CONQUEROR has gone on to pick up two more wins prior to today.
