Syafifie breaks duck with double

LIM'S KEYWAY bounced back to form after three years to unlock the door to apprentice Syafifie Zailuddin's maiden win here today.

The Brazilian gelding was purchased for racing in Singapore but after just two runs in two seasons at Kranji, he was shipped to trainer Johnny Lim in late 2018.

Lim won two races with LIM'S KEYWAY in 2019 and the gelding had three consecutive placings in early 2020 followed a long of 'outs' before he was transferred to Cecil Robert in the middle of last year.

Under Robert, LIM'S KEYWAY managed two placings before his comeback win in a Class 5 - 1400m handicap today.

Syafifie has ridden the gelding twice, finishing third three starts back last month.

On a heavy track today, LIM'S KEYWAY settled just behind the pace, challenged for the lead 200m out and shot clear at the 100m. But MYSTICAL STAR came charging home in the closing stages to make it a photo finish. LIM'S KEYWAY just held on to win by short head to pay $341 for a win..

It was Syafifie's 19th ride since making his debut a few months back.

Syafifie then celebrated the breakthrough with another win on MAGNOLIA BLVD in a Class 4 - 1200m sprint.

The American gelding had won three races as a three-year-old back home and this was his first win in 19 runs in Malaysia.
