Lim's Kosciuszko too good in Merlion Trophy

Back after his unsuccessful attempt in the Hong Kong Sprint last December, LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO left no doubt that he is the sprint king in Singapore with a runaway win in the Group 3 Merlion Trophy at Kranji here today.

It was his race on the polytrack.

Ridden by Wong Chin Chuen, the Kermadec gelding was tucked behind the pace set by CELAVI who won the race when it was last run in 2021.

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO was eased out from the inside to take a gap three-wide turning into the straight. He pounced on the leader 200m and raced away to win by 2 1/2 lengths from KING ARTHUR who for a moment looked a possibility 100m out.

"It was a tough Hong Kong trip. I felt disappointed but anyway, we got over that," said trainer Daniel Meagher. "We brought him back and it's been a little troublesome run. He's done a great job."

Since arriving in Singapore, LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO had won 12 of 14 starts here, including the Singapore Derby (1800m) and the Lion City Cup (1200m) last year.

LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO will now be aimed for the Raffles Cup at the end of next month.
