Rumble powers his way to $486 shock

Last season's runaway winner Manoel Nunes has started the season on a bright note, winning the first race of the new season together with newly-crowned champion trainer Tim Fitzsimmons, who saddled 65 winners last year.

The pair triumphed with MISTER DYNAMO who picked up his fourth win in 30 starts.

Nunes went on to complete a double on COSMIC DANCER in the Open Maiden event.

But the champion was outshone by A'Isisuhairi Kassim who booted home three winners including the day's biggest shock RUMBLE in the Class 5, Div 2 - 1200m sprint on the polytrack.

RUMBLE, whose rating is now a lowly 22. was unplaced in 18 starts in 2020 and 2021 and missed action for the whole of last year.

Despite the long layoff, the Onemorenomore gelding was smartly away and was in a line vying for the early lead. WEDNESDAY eventually surged ahead at the halfway mark and took a clear lead into the straight. RUMBLE was third.

WEDNESDAY was well clear at the 200m but it soon became apparent that he went too early. He shortened strides rapidly in the final 80m and it was then that RUMBLE quickly closed the gap and went on to win by half a length. STAR EMPIRE finished well to beat WEDNESDAY for second. RUMBLE paid $486 for a win.

A'Isisuhairi had earlier scored on SUPER GENEROUS and completed his treble with SABAH ACE.
