The August distinguishes himself again

THE AUGUST bounced back to form to win the Class 2 - 1000m handicap on the polytrack at Kranji here today, leading a 1-2 finish for trainer Jerome Tan in the day's main event.

The I Am Invincible gelding, winner of two races in Australia including one at the Flemington, has seven previous wins in Singapore.

At the height of his career here, THE AUGUST had a win and a second in Class 1 in the middle of last year before running third to KHARISMA in the Group 3 Rocket Man Sprint.

Since then, the eight-year-old has finished unplaced in seven starts and was a creditable fifth to SILENT IS GOLD in a Class 1 sprint over 1200m on the turf last start.

THE AUGUST appreciated a drop in class today to run out a 1 1/2-length winner.

"He (THE AUGUST) just found it hard to win," said Tan. "But you can’t fault him as he always tries his best. It was his day today.

"Before the race, I thought SACRED GIFT was the better of the two but might find the 1000m too short. THE AUGUST has been running well of late; never far away in his races.

"I think he appreciated the lightweight (52kgs), as did SACRED GIFT (52.5kgs) and things went well for them in the race."
