Golden King regains his sparkle

After four consecutive placings, GOLDEN KING finally got the break to return to the winner's circle in the Cosmo C set-weight event over 1600m here today.

A winner over 1600m in New Zealand when racing as The Night King, the Savabeel gelding landed his first win locally in 2022.

GOLDEN KING started the 2023 season strongly with two wins in three starts, then lost his way a little bit until he showed up again with four placings in the top company.

The five-year-old ran second to GOLDEN PAYOUT in the Piala Emas Sultan Selangor (2000m) last December and in the same month, was beaten a short head by CHEVAL BLANC in the Penang Gold Cup (2000m).

GOLDEN KING began the new season with a third placing two weeks ago and stepped up on that run to win by three parts of a length today.

Jockey Aizat Abdul Malik settled GOLDEN KING second behind the pacemaker WHY NOT. GOLDEN KING then headed the leader making tue turn into the straight, then held on to his advantage when challenged shortly after by SHOW HAND.
