Bang-in-form Singapore-based jockey Marc Lerner will be making his first foray into Malaysia when he takes up seven rides (including one emergency acceptor) in a card of eight races at Sungai Besi this Sunday.

The 2012 French champion apprentice jockey made his Singapore debut in September 2018, ending the year with just two wins to his name. But he has since featured prominently in the jockey’s table every year, finishing third in the table with 44 win last season. His best haul, however, was in 2021 when he rode 46 winners while his Singapore tally stands at 187 up to last Sunday.

Lerner began his career as an amateur rider before starting his professional apprenticeship in 2010.

He honed his craft for one season in the United States with French trainer Patrick Biancone before returning to France. He became a professional jockey shortly after winning the apprentice title in 2012.

Lerner rode mainly in France, Germany and Qatar before coming to Singapore. His career total winners stands at more than 400.

Lerner was off to flyer in the new season in Singapore when he won the opening day’s first three races on THE SHADOW, SEPTEMBER and FLAMING MIGLIORE, and added a fourth win on KHAO MANEE later in the programme on January 6. His current tally is eight for the season.

This Sunday, Lerner will ride WATCH OUT BOSS (Race 4), RESOLUTE (Race 5, emergency acceptor) and TRUMPY (Race 6) for trainer Lawson Moy, who currently leads the table ahead of Simon Dunderdale at eight winners apiece.

Dunderdale has also booked Lerner on QIJI STAR (Race 1) and ATTENTION (Race 3).

Lerner’s two other rides are BIG BAD MAMA (Race 2), trained by Teh Ming Wan, and last-start winner BE YOURSELF (Race 7), from the stables of Cheng Han Yong.

QIJI STAR, BIG BAD MAMA and TRUMPY are last-start place-getters.

Also crossing the causeway this Sunday are Jerlyn Seow and Yusoff Fadzli.

Seow, top apprentice in Singapore last year with 14 wins, won two races when she last rode here two weeks ago. She has four rides: MY GOODNESS (Race 1), CONGAREE (Race 5), MEWTWO (Race 7) and SILENT PRINCE (Race 8).

Malaysian Yusoff ventured into Singapore in 2018, riding a solitary winner that year. Since then he has established himself at Kranji with 2022 being his best year, scoring 22 wins that year including two trebles.

Yusoff is booked on LET'S COME ON BABY (Race 1), THOUSAND MILE EYE (Race 5) and D'GREAT DUCHESS (Race 6).
