MAKIN ended a run of three consecutive second placing with a win in the Class 3 - 1400m handicap at Kranji here today, and brought up another four-timer for champion jockey Manoel Nunes.

The son of Written Tycoon cost A$1.1mil as a yearling but enjoyed only minor success Down Under. He was placed second in Maiden company in two runs at two, then won in Maiden race and had another placing in three starts at three.

MAKIN took a while to find his footing in Singapore, getting off the mark in his fifth local start in Class 4 last October.

The four-year-old has started six more times since. After back-to-back seconds to ACE OF DIAMONDS and SILO in Class 4, he was promoted a class but fell to SILO again last month.

This time, however, there was no stopping the son of Written Tycoon.

MAKIN turned the tables on ACE OF DIAMONDS when he came from just behind the latter in the running to score by a neck.

It was a good day," said Nunes who leads the table with 17 winners. "I had some nice rides, so I was looking forward to today’s meeting, but it was always nice to go home with a few winners.

"MAKIN was the most impressive though, and I think he is still improving.

"ACE OF DIAMONDS is a good horse and got a gap on us, so for MAKIN to run him down, that was a very good effort."

"He (MAKIN) is still in Class 3 and I think there is another race over 1400m coming up.

"The way he is maturing, he settled very well today. I think he still has plenty of improvement in him and as a four-year-old, the Silver Bowl is obviously a target."

Trainer Steven Burridge said: "He’s (MAKIN) been beaten by some nice horses like SILO and ACE OF DIAMONDS, so I think he will measure up in good races.

"And he’s still putting on condition, so I think he still has plenty of improvement to come."
