Penang Man rules his home turf again

PENANG:  Feb 17, 2024

PENANG MAN, who returned to winning form after a lapse of 16 months here last start, completed a double when he came from off the pace to take the first of two events today.

Apprentice Shahronnizam Syamsir settled the Sacred Falls gelding fourth in a field of five in the Class 5 - 1300m handicap.

As the tight field swung for home, a big gap opened up on the inside of the front runners and PENANG MAN dashed through to take the lead 200m out.

JULIUS CAESAR threw out a challenge in the final 100m but PENANG MAN held on to win by half a length.

It was just the third win in 39 starts for PENANG MAN since his first race in 2020.

For Shahronnizam, who had a solitary win in his debut season last year, it was his third winner of the season.

The other winner today was JAPAN CAPTAIN who led all the way in the Class 5 - 1100m sprint. His only previous win was 18 months ago.
