Jason Ong starts title defence with four wins

SINGAPORE: Jan 14, 2024

After drawing a blank in the opening meeting last week, champion trainer Jason Ong kicked off the defence of his title with four winners at Kranji here today.

Ong took the opening two events with WINS ONE and SILVER DRAGON. The former won two races last year while SILVER DRAGON broke the duck after five runs.

Also off the mark after five starts for Ong was WAIT U KNOW. The Reset gelding, however, came to Singapore one win in six starts in Australia.

Ong wound up the afternoon with SURREY HILLS in the final race, ridden by last season's top apprentice Jerlyn Seow, who missed last week's action through suspension.

SURREY HILLS ended the 2023 season on a winning note and carried that form to today's action.

Bruno Queiroz, who had a strong finish to the 2023 season, was again on fire with four winners: SILVER DRAGON, NINEONEONE, BENBO and STRIKE GOLD.

Meanwhile, the 2023 champion Manoel Nunes, who was off to a flying start with four winners last week, added one more win to his name today, taking the main event on GHALIB.

The I Am Invincible gelding won three of his seven starts last year and is very much on the upgrade with a runaway win in the Class 3 - 1200m sprint.
