Lim's Saltoro bags first trophy in Silver Bowl

Exciting galloper LIM'S SALTORO bagged his first group success when he took out the Group 3 Silver Bowl over 1400m at Kranji here today.

The Shamexpress gelding started racing only as a four-year-old last September but he immediately served notice of his potential with five unbeaten runs before he came up against stablemate LIM'S KOSCIUSZKO in the Group 2 EW Barker Trophy (1400m) two months ago.

LIM'S SALTORO ran a gallant race and was beaten only a short head by the champion galloper.

The New Zealand gelding has bounced back to win his next two starts, the Silver Bowl being the first leg of the Singapore Four-Year-Old challenge.

Partnered by Mark Lerner, LIM'S SALTORO sat nicely behind the pace set by ANIKI before hitting the from at the 100m in a keenly-fought contest. He won by half a length ahead of MAKIN.

He’s a very exciting prospect," said trainer Dan Meagher, winning the Silver Bowl for the first time.

"He only does what he has to do. Like when he’s in front, he won’t let them pass him - unless it’s (Lim’s) Kosciuszko. And when he’s behind them, he goes past them but he waits for them.

He’s getting better and better," said jockey Marc Lerner.

"Everything went smooth (in the race). I was super relaxed and I had him on the long rein.

"He cannot hit the front too early. So I thought the win was pretty soft because you can see he put his ears back and was working a bit.

"Now bring on the next two legs. We are looking forward."

The Four-Year-Old series continues with the Stewards’ Cup on June 30 and concludes with the Derby on July 21.
