NOVEMBER HOME-BASED MEETING
First Day,  Saturday,  7 November 2015

 RACE 1:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

Prior to the "All Clear" being given, Trainer R Lines and Jockey J Low, the trainer and rider of GOLD STAR PRINCESS respectively, viewed the official patrol film of the 800m into the reasons why he had to check his mount. After viewing the film, they decided not to lodge an objection.

RED EASTERN (HS Gill) jumped outwards as the start was effected resulting in the rider becoming unbalanced.

Shortly after the start, SUPER MIX (App SU Lim) was buffeted for some distance between SUPER WINE (Lou Ho) and EASY AHEAD (S Ruzaini), and had to be restrained by its rider.

SUPER WINE had a tendency to race fiercely in the early stages of the event and had to be eased off the heels of the runners in front.

Approaching the 900m, SUPER MIX (App SU Lim) had a tendency to lay outwards and RED EASTERN shifted in marginally and as a result of this incident, GOLD STAR PRINCESS (J Low), which was racing between these runners, was checked and had to be eased by its rider.

Racing to the 600m, BLACK COFFEE (J De Souza) had to shift in closer to the rails resulting in EASY AHEAD (S Ruzaini) having to be eased by its rider and as a result lost ground.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey J De Souza, the rider of BLACK COFFEE, was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii). The particulars of the charge were that whilst riding BLACK COFFEE in this race, at approximately the 600m, he did shift in from a one-wide position closer to the rails when insufficiently clear (2 lengths) of EASY AHEAD (S Ruzaini) resulting in Jockey S Ruzaini having to ease his horse and losing his rightful position. As a result of this incident, SUPER WINE, GOLD STAR PRINCESS, I TOLD YOU and SUPER MIX received varying degrees of interference.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey J De Souza’s mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two Malaysian race days with effect from 9 November 2015 and to expire on 21 November 2015, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (2:45pm).

Approaching the 300m, SUPER MIX was held up for a clear run for some distance before having to shift in across the heels of runners to gain clear running.

SUPER WINE had a tendency to lay out under pressure over the concluding stages.

RED EASTERN raced wide throughout the event.

NEW CLASSMATE (C Goon), which cast its near-fore plate behind the barrier, was replated, examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race.

Upon jumping, NEW CLASSMATE (C Goon) shifted outwards and made contact with PRINCE NANO (J Low), SHIRLEY BEAUTY (App SU Lim) and IKTO (R Burnett). As a result of this incident, IKTO had to be checked by its rider.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey C Goon, the rider of NEW CLASSMATE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) whilst riding NEW CLASSMATE in this race, at approximately the 900m, he allowed his horse to shift in which resulted in AMONGST THE STARS (M Wepner) having to check his mount and lose several lengths.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey C Goon’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two Malaysian race days with effect from 9 November 2015 and to expire on 21 November 2015, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (3:10pm).

 RACE 3:  INITIATION - 1200M

MISTER JAGGER (S Salee) reared upon jumping and shifted outwards, inconveniencing GHOST AFFAIR (HS Gill). As a result of this incident, SATURDAY’S DELIGHT (SS Vanan) and ALL YOU CAN (M Wepner) were also inconvenienced.

Entering the front straight, RANGITAIKI (App M Hanif), the leader of the event, shifted outwards which resulted in RUFFLE THE RUFFIAN (Lou Ho) gaining an inside run.

THUNDER KING (O Chavez) had a tendency to race fiercely and was caught racing wide throughout the event and in the home straight, had a tendency to lay out under pressure despite the efforts of its rider.

Jockey SS Vanan, the rider of SATURDAY’S DELIGHT, reported that his saddle slipped sideways from approximately the 600m.

Jockey HS Gill, the rider of GHOST AFFAIR, reported that his horse raced greenly throughout.

 RACE 4:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

BUZZ MAN (C Goon), which cast its near-fore plate behind the barrier, was replated, examined by the Club Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race.

SIR CHALLAN (App W Faizal) was slow to begin.

Upon jumping, ROCK AND STONE (App M Hanif) shifted inwards and inconvenienced SIR CHALLAN.

SAGAR’S EXPRESS (H Bukhari) had a tendency to race fiercely in the early stages of the race.

KIM DIVA (S Ruzaini) had a tendency to race fiercely in the early stages and got its head up and had to be eased off the heels of ROCK AND STONE.

ROCK AND STONE had a tendency to lay inwards under pressure in the run to the finish and was caught racing wide throughout the event.

The Stewards questioned Trainer R Lines and App KP Lim, the trainer and rider of CHAMPAGNE ROSE respectively, into the disappointing performance of the mare. Trainer R Lines explained that the mare had worked extremely well throughout the week and he expected a forward show and could not offer any explanation in relation to the disappointing performance.

App KP Lim stated that he jumped well and rode CHAMPAGNE ROSE in a mid-to-back position as per the Trainer’s Instruction Form and placed the mare under pressure at the 700m, however, it failed to respond to his riding. The Stewards noted their comments for future reference. A post-race veterinary examination of CHAMPAGNE ROSE revealed no significant finding.

 RACE 5:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

JOHNNY’S CAFÉ (App Z Khairil) knuckled shortly after the start.

SILENT DREAMS (LL Tai) had a tendency to shift in shortly after the start, and inconvenienced COMONBABY (H Bukhari) and GRANDE AFFARE (App S Shafrizal).

Racing to the 1100m, COMONBABY shifted inwards away from JOHNNY’S CAFÉ which resulted in GRANDE AFFARE (App S Shafrizal) being buffeted and had to be restrained by its rider.

Approaching the 300m, VON SNITZEL (S Ruzaini) was held up for a clear run between runners in front and was unable to gain clear running for the remaining part of the home straight.

LEE’S DYNASTY (HS Gill) and MASQUERAIN (App KP Lim) were both caught racing wide throughout the event.

On returning to scale, Jockey HS Gill, the rider of LEE’S DYNASTY, reported that his horse was caught racing wide throughout.

The Stewards questioned Jockey S Ruzaini, the rider of VON SNITZEL, into his ride in particular from the 400m and into the reasons why he failed to shift out to gain clear running. Jockey S Ruzaini explained that VON SNITZEL had a tendency to lay in despite his efforts and was unable to shift out due to these reasons.

The Stewards, after viewing the official patrol films, reminded Jockey S Ruzaini in the strongest term that at all times, he must ensure that he does his best to gain clear running when the opportunity arises.

The Stewards questioned App KP Lim, the rider of MASQUERAIN, into the tactics that were adopted on the gelding in particular why he raced wide throughout the event and shifted wider on the home turn. App KP Lim explained that the gelding had a tendency to shift out throughout the event despite his efforts. This was supported by the official patrol films and the Stewards took no further action. The Stewards noted his comments for future reference.

 RACE 6:  CLASS 4 - 1200M

SUPER VICTORY (L Sofhan) was slow to begin and had to be eased by its rider shortly thereafter.

Approaching the 1000m, ENGLISH DREAM (App WK Lee) shifted in and away from LECTERN (J Low) and as a result, SUPER GOOD (App T Krisna) and MR EPIC (App KP Lim) had to be checked by their riders. After viewing the official patrol films of the incident, the Stewards deemed it as a racing incident and no further action was taken.

Approaching the 300m, PROHIBITION (HS Gill) was disappointed for a run between VAGABOND (App SU Lim) and TILSWORTH FREDDIE (S Ruzaini) and had to shift out to gain clear running. PROHIBITION continued to be held up and had to shift out to gain clear running over the final 100m and ran home strongly.

 RACE 7:  CLASS 3 - 1400M

Upon jumping, Q NINE MYSTIC (App WT Chung) jumped outwards and made contact with ACE SURPRISE (S Salee).

TOUCH OF GOLD (App Z Khairil) jumped outwards resulting in RIGHTEO (L Sofhan) having to be eased off that horse’s heels.

PERFECT ATTACK (HS Gill) had a tendency to race fiercely and got its head up approaching the 1000m.

Over the concluding stages, Q NINE MYSTIC was momentarily held up before having to shift out to gain clear running.

Jockey M Wepner, the rider of STREET OF LONDON, reported that his saddle slipped backwards during running.

The state of track was upgraded to "Good" after the running of this race.

 RACE 8:  CLASS 5 - 1600M

Trainer T Jackman was fined RM100 under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on PURE RABID.

Upon jumping, GRAND SHOW (App WK Lee) was tightened for room when FLYING AHEAD (App W Faizal) jumped inwards and LITTLE MAN (App S Shafrizal) jumped outwards, and lost ground.

Approaching the 1200m, UNME (App M Hanif) had to ease off the heels of KIM WARRIOR (R Burnett) when that gelding shifted in closer to the rails and as a result of this incident, POWER IN HAND (HS Gill), KING FAALCON (M Wepner) and BLUE DELAGO (App AK Lim) had to be checked by their riders.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, Jockey R Burnett, the rider of KIM WARRIOR, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) whilst riding KIM WARRIOR in this race, at approximately the 1200m, he allowed his horse to shift in when insufficiently clear of UNME (App M Hanif) and as a result UNME had to be eased by its rider resulting in POWER IN HAND (HS Gill), KING FAALCON (M Wepner) and BLUE DELAGO (App AK Lim) being checked by their riders.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey R Burnett’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two Malaysian race days with effect from 9 November 2015 and to expire on 21 November 2015, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (6:10pm).

Approaching the 1000m, QI POWER (A Nawawi) raced fiercely and had to be eased off the heels of PURE RABID (S Ruzaini).

Racing to the 1000m, FLYING AHEAD rolled in marginally and as a result, ALACARTE had to be eased by its rider.

Approaching the 900m, FLYING AHEAD (App W Faizal) shifted inwards momentarily resulting in ALACARTE (J Low) being taken inwards and POWER IN HAND (HS Gill) was inconvenienced of this incident.

The Stewards questioned Trainer D Murphy and App KP Lim, the trainer and rider of ANOTHER SON respectively, into the disappointing performance of the gelding. Trainer D Murphy explained that he had freshened the gelding up during the week as it was backing up from its previous run and could offer no explanation into the disappointing performance.

App KP Lim stated that he placed ANOTHER SON under pressure at the 900m, however, it failed to respond to his riding. The Stewards noted their comments for future reference. A post-race veterinary examination of CHAMPAGNE ROSE revealed no significant finding.

RACE 5 (1293), 31 OCTOBER 2015, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER HOME-BASED MEETING 2015

The Stewards, on 4 November 2015 at the Selangor Turf Club, concluded an inquiry into Jockey L Sofhan’s ride on LUWAK COFFEE. Evidence was taken from Jockey L Sofhan and Trainer Anna Scott, the rider and trainer of LUWAK COFFEE respectively.

After viewing the official patrol films of this event and considering the evidence tendered, the Stewards acting on their own observations, Jockey L Sofhan pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that from approximately the 450m mark until the winning post, he failed to show sufficient vigour in his riding style and whip use to ensure the horse, LUWAK COFFEE finished in the best possible placing.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration Jockey L Sofhan’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous good riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two months with effect from 9 November 2015 and to expire on 8 January 2016, both dates inclusive. Acting on the provisions of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey L Sofhan’s suspension to allow him to fulfill his riding engagements this weekend. He was advised of his right of appeal (11:45am).

Jockey L Sofhan subsequently exercised his right of appeal and applied for a stay of sentence. The Stewards considered the application for a stay which was allowed. The appeal hearing against the penalty of the suspension of two months will be held at a date to be fixed.

 

RACE 8 (1296), SATURDAY, 31 OCTOBER 2015, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER HOME-BASED MEETING 2015

The Stewards questioned App AK Lim, the rider of HIGH TENSILE, in the presence of his master, Trainer WC Lim and Trainer Anna Scott, the trainer of HIGH TENSILE, into the riding tactics that were adopted on HIGH TENSILE in the home straight.

The Stewards were not satisfied that App AK Lim showed sufficient vigour over the final 300m. After viewing the official patrol films and taking into consideration evidence tendered by all parties, the Stewards acting on their own observations, did not take any action against App AK Lim as the horse, HIGH TENSILE, did not have a tendency to lay in slightly which was supported by the films.

The Stewards reminded App AK Lim that he would be expected to ensure that he rides all his mounts to the best of his ability at all times.

 

AMENDMENT
RACE 4 (R1292), SATURDAY, 31 OCTOBER 2015, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER HOME-BASED MEETING 2015

At the conclusion of an inquiry today, Jockey SS Vanan, the rider of GOLD BREW, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 41(6)(c)(i) in that whilst riding GOLD BREW in the home straight from approximately the 400m, he struck his horse forward of the shoulder on numerous occasions.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey SS Vanan’s guilty plea, previous riding record and his mitigating factors. He was fined RM500 and advised of his right of appeal.

 

ADDENDUM
RACE 7 (R1295), SATURDAY, 31 OCTOBER 2015, SELANGOR TURF CLUB OCTOBER HOME-BASED MEETING 2015

Trainer WC Lim was fined RM100 under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours on WILL BE BETTER.

POST-RACE URINE:  SUNDAY, 25 OCTOBER 2015
PENANG LATE OCTOBER HOME-BASED MEETING 2015

The report dated 5 November 2015 (V15/139) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 14 coded urine and 18 sets of coded blood samples from the above-mentioned race meeting were received on 26 October 2015, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected

JOCKEY URINE SAMPLES: SUNDAY, 25 OCTOBER 2015
PENANG LATE OCTOBER HOME-BASED MEETING 2015

The report dated 5 November 2015 (V15/140) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 2 coded urine samples from the above-mentioned race meeting were received on 26 October 2015, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.

RACE 7 (R1305), SUNDAY, 1 NOVEMBER 2015, PENANG NOVEMBER HOME-BASED MEETING 2015

At the conclusion of an inquiry today (6 November 2015) at the Penang Turf Club, Jockey S Salee, the rider of PRERICH in the above race, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards. The particulars of the charge were that in the home straight, he failed to ride PRERICH with sufficient, and his normal vigour when there were opportunities to do so.

After considering all the evidence, the circumstances of the case, Jockey S Salee’s points of mitigation and his very clean riding record, he was suspended from riding in races for a period of one month. Acting on the provision of MRA Rule 48(5), the Stewards deferred the commencement of Jockey S Salee’s suspension to take effect from Monday, 9 November 2015 and to expire on Tuesday, 8 December 2015, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (10.40am).

 

RACE 7 (R1305), SUNDAY, 1 NOVEMBER 2015, PENANG NOVEMBER HOME-BASED MEETING 2015

The Stewards today (6 November 2015) inquired into the circumstances surrounding the fact that App R Fakruddin was unable to make the carded weight on MAKEMEAMLLION in the above race and subsequently left the course despite being advised by the Stewards to remain at the course pending an investigation into this matter. App R Fakruddin in the presence of his acting master, Trainer C Robert, subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 152(5)(b) for failing to obey an order of the Stewards and he was suspended from riding in races for a period of one month with immediate effect from Friday, 6 November 2015 and to expire on Saturday, 5 December 2015, both dates inclusive.

In addition, after considering all the evidence, App R Fakruddin was fined RM500 for negligence under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for not being able to make the carded weight on MAKEMEAMILLION in the above race. He was also further advised that he would be restricted from accepting rides with a carded weight below 57kgs until such time that he is able to maintain a lower riding weight on a regular basis.

He was informed of his right of appeal (11.20am).
