The Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reasons why Jockey M Ganeesh failed to arrive on course to fulfill his riding engagements to a date to be fixed.

JET COSMO (App W Faizal) was very fractious in the barrier prior to release, and reared on a couple of occasions.

Upon jumping, JET COSMO shifted inwards and had to be eased over the heels of ANOTHER SON.

Approaching the 1000m, MYSTIC WARRIOR (App P Haris) shifted inwards, inconveniencing BEAUTY ADMIRE (R Burnett). App P Haris was shown the official patrol film of the incident and reminded of his obligation to exercise greater care when shifting ground under similar circumstances in future.

Leaving the 600m, MYSTIC WARRIOR raced wide and continued to race wide entering the front straight.

Approaching the 300m, TWIST OLIVER (S Ruzaini) shifted inwards under pressure and as a result, KIM ABILITY (App AK Lim) had to be eased off that gelding’s heels.

THUNDER KING had a tendency to over-race and raced greenly throughout the event.

KIM ABILITY, which was beaten 22 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000m/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

App P Haris, the rider of MYSTIC WARRIOR, reported that his saddle slipped backwards and sideways, and this was confirmed by the Stewards.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App T Krisna, the rider of EN LAUDER, in the presence of his master, Trainer R Lines, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that approaching the 400m in this race, he allowed his horse to shift out abruptly to gain clear running and as a result, BEAUTY ADMIRE and FLYING AHEAD (M Wepner) were both checked as a consequence.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App T Krisna’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of two Malaysian race days with effect from 20 December 2015 and to expire on 26 December 2015, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (2:15pm).

 RACE 3:  CLASS 5 - 1800M

Upon jumping, KIM WARRIOR (R Burnett) shifted outwards and inconvenienced BOWEN LAD (App W Faizal).

Shortly after the start, DUEL OF HONOUR (App S Shafrizal) shifted inwards despite the efforts of its rider resulting in DESERT SOUL (App AK Lim) being taken in onto FLEDGELING (J De Souza) and as a result, both horses were buffeted for some distance.

HAHA BABE (App Z Khairil) had a tendency to race fiercely in the early and middle stages, got its head up and had to be restrained by its rider to try and settle the gelding.

Shortly after entering the home straight for the run to the finish, HAHA BABE had a tendency to lay in and was held up for a clear run, and had to be eased outwards over the heels of MAN OF THE WORLD (SS Vanan) and BOWEN LAD to gain clear running and as a result of this incident, made slight contact with KING OF THE CREEK (S Ruzaini).

KING FAALCON (M Wepner) was held up for a clear run from the 400m behind runners in front and failed to gain a clear run into the 200m, and ran home well.

Over the concluding stages of the event, KING FAALCON had to be eased by its rider when HAHA BABE shifted out under pressure.

DESERT SOUL, which was beaten 21 lengths, will be required to pass a 1000m/vet test before being declared to race again for having a poor performance.

The Stewards questioned App W Faizal and Trainer L Moy into the tactics that were adopted on BOWEN LAD in particular from the 1200m. App W Faizal stated that his instructions from the trainer were to get a good jump and race handy. He further stated that approaching the 1200m, he elected to leave the trailing position and raced 5-wide and progressed forward before gaining a position outside the leader at approximately the 800m and placed the gelding under pressure in the home straight. However, it failed to respond to his riding and finished at the rear of the field.

Trainer L Moy stated that he had instructed App W Faizal to try to gain a forward position as the gelding had failed in its previous start when ridden back in the field. The Stewards were concerned that the gelding, after being inconvenienced at the start, the rider failed to show any initiative to ride the horse where it would be given its best chance to finish in the best possible position in the field.

At the conclusion of an inquiry, App W Faizal, the rider of BOWEN LAD, in the presence of his master, Trainer L Moy, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 44(10) for failing to ride to the satisfaction of the Stewards in that he left the trailing position at approximately the 1200m to race 5, 6-wide before gaining a forward position outside the leader approaching the 800m and he raced outside the leader and compounded over the final 300m to be beaten 18 ¼ lengths.

In assessing the penalty, the Stewards took into consideration App W Faizal’s guilty plea, mitigating factors, previous riding record and his submissions on penalty. He was suspended from riding in races for a period of one month with effect from 20 December 2015 and to expire on 19 January 2016, both dates inclusive. He was advised of his right of appeal (3:45pm).

Upon returning to scales, several riders reported that there was poor visibility throughout the event.

All riders returned to scale an average of 1 1/2kgs overweight due to the adverse weather conditions.

The state of track was downgraded to "Yielding" after the running of this race.

The Stewards questioned Jockey C Goon and Trainer R Lines into the tactics that were adopted on OCEAN WAVE as the Stewards were concerned why it raced well-back during the race and raced wide throughout.

Jockey C Goon reported that OCEAN WAVE which was having its first start in Malaysia, had no early pace and got further back than he wished, and he placed the gelding under pressure at the 900m but it failed to respond to his riding. He further explained that throughout the event, he was unable to see due to the kickback from other horses and was surprised that when he placed the gelding under pressure over the final 300m, it responded to his riding and finished 3 ¾ lengths from the winner.

Trainer R Lines agreed with Jockey C Goon’s explanation and reported that he was not sure what to expect from OCEAN WAVE, however, it did have an official race trial and on that performance, he did not expect much from the gelding, however on this occasion, was pleased that the gelding showed some improvement over the concluding stages.

The Stewards, after viewing the official patrol film and acting on their own observations, noted their comments for future reference, however, advised Jockey C Goon that in future the Stewards would expect him to ride his mounts in a more positive manner so as to leave no room for query. Their comments were noted for future reference.

 RACE 10:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

Upon jumping, LIGHTNING QUEEN (LL Tai) was slow to begin.

Approaching the 300m, CHINESE SILHOUTTE (App P Deneskumar) had a tendency to lay inwards despite the efforts of its rider resulting in RAINBOW FUTURE (App AK Lim) being tightened for room when racing to the outside of DYNAMIC TRIO (M Wepner) and as a result, had to ease his mount.

PRINCE NANO (J Low), LIGHTING QUEEN (LL Tai) and MILITARY STAR (S Ruzaini) were all caught racing wide throughout the event.

Over the concluding stages, PRINCE NANO shifted out under pressure and finished wider on the track.

App M Hanif, the rider of ROCK AND STONE, reported that his horse did not act in the going.

All riders returned to scale an average of 1kg overweight due to the adverse weather conditions.

The Stewards questioned Jockey M Wepner, the rider of DYNAMIC TRIO, App M Hanif, the rider of ROCK AND STONE and App WK Lee, the rider of BOWEN BOY, into the reasons why App WK Lee was severely checked and blundered resulting in him becoming unbalanced at approximately the 1100m.

After taking evidence from the riders, the Stewards acting on their own observations, established that racing to the 1100m, ROCK AND STONE had a tendency to over-race and had to momentarily ease off the heels of DYNAMIC TRIO when DYNAMIC TRIO shifted closer to the rails. ROCK AND STONE continued to race fiercely resulting in App M Hanif shifting outwards which resulted in BOWEN BOY clipping the heels of ROCK AND STONE and blundered, unbalancing App WK Lee.

The Stewards, taking into consideration all the evidence, could not blame any rider for this incident, however, Jockey M Wepner was advised to ensure that he allows more room when shifting ground in future, in particular on rain-affected surfaces.
