MARCH MEETING
Third Day,  Saturday,  26 March 2016

 RACE 1:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

Trainer S Hamilton was fined RM1,000 for failing to ensure the vaccination status (Japanese B Encephalitis) was current for SUPER WINE in terms of MRA Regulation 20.3 as read with MRA Regulation 20.6. SUPER WINE was withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 12.45 pm.

App S Zulfikri, the rider of EXCELLENT GOAL, was fined RM200 under MRA Rule 44(2) for failing to arrive on-course at least one hour prior to the advertised time of his first carded engagement.

At the start, BIG EGO (K Yazid) jumped awkwardly inwards and shortly after the start, lost some ground after being bumped by SIR RALLY (S Sandana) which rolled outwards.

BIG EGO was caught three wide approaching the first turn at the 800m.

A post-race veterinary examination of BIG EGO revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

 RACE 2:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

Acting on veterinary advice that THUNDER WIND (K Yazid) was lame left knee, the Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 1.35 pm. THUNDER WIND will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being declared to race again.

Behind the barriers, Jockey R Woodworth requested for a veterinary examination on LAZAROO which was passed fit to race.

At the start, ALI BABA (App CT Lee) fly-jumped and was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, NICE HAT TRICK (App R Narendran) steadied inwards around the heels of PROPITIONS GOLD (App AM Aizat). Thereafter, NICE HAT TRICK took little interest in the race.

Approaching the turn at the 800m, CABRERA (App AK Lim) which had a tendency to lay outwards, raced tight and brushed PROPITIONS GOLD which was pulling and was difficult to settle.

A post-race veterinary examination of NICE HAT TRICK revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being declared to race again.

 RACE 3:  CLASS 5 - 1200M

EMPRESS GIOK, which was down 17kgs in body weight since its last run, was checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and was passed fit to start.

Shortly after the start, THE TIGER (App AM Aizat) lost ground when tightened between EMPRESS GIOK (K Yazid), which jumped awkwardly outwards, and CERIUM (F Yap) which jumped awkwardly inwards. At about the same time, WASHINGTON BAY (HS Gill) steadied when tightened on the inside of MULTI WEALTH (S Sandana) which rolled inwards.

CIZEN BROTHER (App KC Wong) was caught four wide on the bend at the 800m.

Jockey HS Gill, the rider of WASHINGTON BAY, reported that his mount was making respiratory noises. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.

Jockey K Yazid, the rider of EMPRESS GIOK, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the mare returned lame near-fore and as such, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being declared to race again.

 

Jockey TM Wan, the rider of BLAZING STEED, reported that his mount was not striding out freely. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality. The gelding was impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

A post-race veterinary examination of DANCE HALL DAYS (M Ganeesh) revealed no obvious abnormality.

 RACE 4:  CLASS 5 - 1700M

App AK Lim was dislodged from PERFECT FIXER prior to the start. PERFECT FIXER was checked by the Veterinary Surgeon and passed fit to race.

At the start, FAIRBORN (App AM Aizat) fly-jumped and was slow to begin.

TIME TO SHINE (M Yusri) jumped awkwardly outwards onto FLY NOW (J Shankar) at the start.

PHILIP (App KC Wong) jumped the crossing at the 1500m and became unbalanced.

KEY LARGOLD (R Woodworth) was caught four wide on the turn at the 800m and raced wide into the straight.

PHILIP was held up for a clear run entering the home straight.

Approaching the 200m, GEORGIE BOY (J Chuah) was momentarily held up for a clear run on the heels of ZENIDIN (S Sandana).

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that FLY NOW returned having cast its near-hind plate.

Post-race veterinary examinations of GLORY STAR (C Goon) and TIME TO SHINE revealed no obvious abnormality. TIME TO SHINE was impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

 RACE 5:  CLASS 4 - 1300M

WARN YOU MAN, which was up 26kgs, and DEKATI, which was down 16kgs in body weight since their last runs, were checked by the Club Veterinary Surgeon prior to the race and were passed fit to start.

Trainer B Ng was fined RM100 under MRA Rule 65(5)(c) for failing to produce the declared colours for WARN YOU MAN (App S Zulfikri).

At the start, BLACK SEQUALO (App R Narendran) jumped awkwardly outwards onto BLACK RAIN (M Zairi) and shortly afterwards, steadied off the heels of RUBY DANE (S Salee) which rolled inwards.

Shortly after the start, JEAN FRANCOIS (M Ganeesh) steadied on the inside of HOHOHO (App KC Wong) which rolled inwards slightly.

BLACK RAIN steadied in a tightly-bunched field approaching the 800M mark.

DAWN PROSPECT (M Yusri) had a tendency to hang inwards in the straight. An Inquiry into the ride will be held at a date to be fixed.

Post-race veterinary examinations of HOHOHO and BLACK RAIN revealed no obvious abnormality. BLACK RAIN was impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

 RACE 6:  CLASS 4 - 1300M

LOVE EXCEL (App T Krisna), which jumped awkwardly outwards at the start and brushed the outside gate, was slow to begin and showed no pace throughout.

JOHNNY’S CAFÉ (App S Shafrizal) and PIUS TOUCH (R Woodworth) were both pulling hard and were difficult to settle in the back straight.

Rounding the turn at about the 800m, PIUS TOUCH and CAPRICCI PRINCE (J Low) brushed and made contact.

ABSOLUTE MAVERICK (S Salee) was trapped five wide on the turn into the home straight.

BABY POLO (App AK Lim) showed little interest in the race despite being urged. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormality.

At approximately the 200m mark, PIUS TOUCH steadied on the inside of ALL SERENE (App S Saddam) which rolled inwards slightly.

Post-race veterinary examinations of TRAVERTINE (R Jasmin) and LOVE EXCEL revealed no obvious abnormality. TRAVERTINE was impounded for further veterinary and analytical examination.

LOVE EXCEL, which raced poorly will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being declared to race again.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that BLACK SORCERER (App AM Aizat) returned having cast its off-hind plate.

 RACE 7:  CLASS 4 - 1700M

MESSI, a course scratching as it had sustained a stone bruise near-fore, will be required to pass a veterinary examination before being declared to race again.

Behind the barriers, App T Krisna requested for a veterinary examination on TILSWORTH GLENBOY which was passed fit to race.

MIRACLE PRAY (KT Cheng) and LA FAMILIA (App S Shafrizal) were both restless in the barriers prior to the start.

LIGHTNING THIEF (App AM Aizat) was a little slow into stride after the start.

GOLD DANCER (R Woodworth) hesitated at the start and was slow to begin. After making up ground, GOLD DANCER was pulling, difficult to settle, lost ground and steadied making the crossing at the 1500m. Thereafter, GOLD DANCER raced keenly and at about the 700m mark, steadied after racing up onto the heels of HAPPY AMIGO (J Low) which was laying outwards.

GOLD DANCER raced wide of the field on the bend into the home straight when making up ground.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that GOLD DANCER returned having cast its off-hind plate.

A post-race veterinary examination of HAPPY AMIGO revealed no obvious abnormality. HAPPY AMIGO, which raced poorly, will be required to pass a test (1000m/vet) before being declared to race again.

 RACE 8:  CLASS 4 - 1300M

At the start, SWEET LODGE (App T Krisna) jumped awkwardly outwards, bumping MR WHYTE (App S Zulfikri) onto BIG BIT COIN (TM Wan) which was tightened.

MY HANDSOME GREY (M Zairi) was a little slow to begin after the start.

Shortly after the 200m, MR WHYTE was held up on the heels of HELLO SAYANG (App KC Wong) which was carried outwards by SWEET LODGE.

Post-race veterinary examinations of MY HANDSOME GREY and BIG BIT COIN revealed no obvious abnormality. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that BIG BIT COIN returned having cast its near-hind plate.

App S Zulfikri, in the presence of his acting master, Trainer B Ng, was questioned regarding his ride on MR WHYTE. He advised the Stewards that after some interference at the start, he became unbalanced and was unable to secure a front running position which were his instructions from Trainer B Ng. The Stewards, after considering the matter and reviewing the video replay, advised App S Zulfikri that they were not entirely happy with his ride or his explanation. He was warned that in future under similar circumstances, stronger action will be taken against him.

 GENERAL

APPEAL BY JOCKEY LEE KOON LIM (KL LEE) AGAINST THE ONE YEAR DISQUALIFICATION AND RM10,000 FINE IMPOSED ON HIM BY THE STIPENDIARY STEWARDS UNDER MRA RULE 44(8)(a) FOR THE RUNNING AND HANDLING OF "SMALL TIGER" IN RACE 6 (R145), CLASS 5 – 1400M [CENTRAL LONDON HANDICAP], SATURDAY, 30 JANUARY 2016, 3RD DAY, PENANG TURF CLUB JANUARY MEETING 2016

The Penang Turf Club Racing Stewards on 22 March 2016 heard the above appeal at the Penang Turf Club. Jockey KL Lee, the rider of SMALL TIGER, was assisted by Ms Mok Cheng Yoon, a certified Court Interpreter.

After considering submissions by Jockey KL Lee and the Acting Chief Stipendiary Steward, the Racing Stewards dismissed Jockey KL Lee’s appeal. His one-year disqualification with effect from 1 February 2016 and to expire on 31 January 2017, both dates inclusive, remains in effect. However, on compassionate grounds, the Racing Stewards rescinded the fine of RM10,000 imposed on Jockey KL Lee. His deposit was refunded.

 

POST RACE URINE: 5 & 6 MARCH 2016

The report dated 18 March 2016 (V16/33) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 45 coded urine and 47 sets of coded blood samples from the above-mentioned race meeting were received on 6 March 2016, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.

The report dated 18 March 2016 (V16/34) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 4 coded urine samples from the above-mentioned race meeting were received on 6 March 2016, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.

 

POST-RACE URINE: 12 MARCH 2016

The report dated 24 March 2016 (V16/36.1) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 26 coded urine and 30 sets of coded blood samples from the above-mentioned race meeting were received on 12 March 2016, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.

TUESDAY, 22 MARCH 2016, SLTC OFFICIAL BARRIER TRIAL/TEST

TURBO returned having bled after the above trial/test and in terms of MRA Rule 92(3), it will not be permitted to canter or gallop on the main training tracks of any racecourse for a period of 2 months, and be entered for a bleeder’s test for a period of 3 months, and start in any race for a period of 3 months after such declaration, and then only after passing the bleeder’s test.

The report dated 18 March 2016 (V16/37) from the Chief Analyst of Veterinary Forensic Laboratory stated that 2 coded urine samples from the above-mentioned race meeting were received on 12 March 2016, for analysis under the MRA Rules and Regulations. No prohibited substances were detected.

PENANG TURF CLUB TRACKWORK – FRIDAY, 25 MARCH 2016

Senior Track Rider Muhammad Fikri bin Hasni (STR.93), employed by Trainer S Hamilton, was fined RM100 for contravention of MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for smoking a cigarette while riding a horse for trackwork on Friday, 25 March 2016.

Trainer S Hamilton was warned to ensure that her employees adhere to work etiquette.

 

INQUIRY INTO THE POST-RACE ANALYSIS OF URINE SAMPLE CODED "19811" TAKEN FROM RACEHORSE "STREET TEASE" (J504) WHICH FINISHED FIRST IN RACE 4 (R1489) ON SATURDAY, 12 DECEMBER 2015 DURING THE PERAK DECEMBER RACE MEETING 2015, WHICH RETURNED POSITIVE TO "MORPHINE", A PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE UNDER MRA RULES OF RACING

Inquiry into the above matter which was set on 4, 11 and 23 March 2016 was unable to proceed as Trainer P Pereira was granted a postponement on these dates for the following grounds:

4 March 2016: To make a Police Report and consult his lawyers;

11 March 2016: He requested a further postponement due to continued investigation of this matter at the stables;

23 March 2016: He had to leave the country due to a problem with his work permit.

In view of the above, the Stewards have granted a final postponement and have decided to hold this inquiry on 15 April 2016 at 2.30 pm at the Perak Turf Club.
