JANUARY (NEW YEAR CUP) MEETING
Friday,  1 January 2016

 RACE 1:  WELCOME 2016 STAKES
                 CLASS 5 - 1000M (POLYTRACK)

RIO DE JANEIRO (N Juglall) lost ground after blundering when jumping away awkwardly.

FLYING WINNER (KB Soo) and HAPPY CAT (App R Hasri) both jumped away awkwardly.

ZAC GALLANT (App CK Ng) jumped awkwardly inwards making contact with BAIL OUT (App Z Zuriman).

GYPSY MAGIC (S John) was carried inwards on jumping when NATURAL IMPULSE (M Rodd) jumped inwards.

Shortly after the start, GYPSY MAGIC then made contact with WESTERN BOSS (App J See), which was carried outwards slightly by SUPER JOY (O Chavez). As a result of this, GYPSY MAGIC lost ground after being buffeted between WESTERN BOSS and NATURAL IMPULSE.

Shortly after the start, HAPPY CAT eased off the heels of ZAC GALLANT after being carried inwards slightly by SUPER JOY.

Approximately 50m after the start, FOLLOW THE KING (App WS Chan) bumped FLYING WINNER on a number of occasions when racing tight to the inside of GOOD SCORE (M Zaki), which shifted inwards.

Approaching the 700m, SUPER JOY steadied off the heels of FOLLOW THE KING, which shifted outwards abruptly when being taken across the heels of BAIL OUT. FOLLOW THE KING then had a tendency to lay outwards.

Shortly after passing the 200m, Jockey Soo, the rider of FLYING WINNER, lost his near-side rein which he regained shortly thereafter.

Approaching the 150m, ZAC GALLANT, which was carried outwards slightly by GOOD SCORE, bumped BAIL OUT outwards, which in turn bumped FLYING WINNER.

Jockey John reported that GYPSY MAGIC was not striding out freely.  A subsequent veterinary examination confirmed this.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on FOLLOW THE KING which revealed that the horse returned having bled. In terms of MRA Rule 92(3), it will not be permitted to canter or gallop on the main training tracks of any racecourse for a period of two months, and may not start in any race for a period of three months, and then only after having satisfactorily passed a bleeder’s test.

All riders returned to scale an average of ½kg overweight due to the weather conditions.

 RACE 2:  RESTRICTED MAIDEN, DIV 1 - 1200M (POLYTRACK)

CERDAN (App R Rueven) and MY TOUCH (TH Koh) were both slow into stride.

Near the 1100m, NOVA MASTER (App Y Salim) eased after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of UNION JAC (M Kellady). Shortly after, NOVA MASTER was bumped inwards by RED JEWEL (App Z Zuriman), which was carried inwards slightly by ASTROJET (A Munro).

Near the 1000m, ELITE STAR (J Powell) shifted inwards and brushed RED JEWEL on a number of occasions.

Approaching the 800m, MY TOUCH, which was racing keenly, was momentarily crowded by BULLISH LUCK (M Nunes), which shifted inwards. MY TOUCH then steadied outwards across the heels of BULLISH LUCK.

MY TOUCH raced wide from the 800m.

Approaching the 700m, NATURAL WATER (App N Nurshahril) lost ground after being crowded by NOVA MASTER, which shifted inwards and away from RED JEWEL.

For the majority of the homestraight, NATURAL WATER laid outwards.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on BULLISH LUCK which revealed no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 3:  CLASS 4, DIV 2 - 1000M (POLYTRACK)

SING ROULETTE (App WS Chan) lost ground after beginning awkwardly.

SATELLITE SPEED (App CC Wong) began awkwardly.

YIN JIE (App Y Salim) jumped awkwardly inwards and made contact with SARTORIAL (M Rodd).

Passing the 700m, YIN JIE had to be steadied on a couple of occasions when racing tight on the inside of LIM’S SINCERE (KB Soo).

SATELLITE SPEED raced wide throughout.

 RACE 4:  MARK WALKER STAKES
                 RESTRICTED MAIDEN, DIV 2 - 1200M (POLYTRACK)

To avoid a clash with the start times of overseas simulcast races which had been rescheduled, this race was put back five minutes and rescheduled to start at 1445Hrs.

INFANTRY (N Juglall) and FLYING SHADOW (S John) bumped on jumping.

RISING STAR (O Chavez) and SING ENERGY (App CC Wong) bumped on jumping.

SCIMITAR (M Kellady), which jumped away awkwardly, was crowded shortly after the start between BLACK THUNDER (App K A’Isisuhairi) and EASTERN TOWKAY (R Woodworth), which shifted inwards and away from MAGIC PAINT (TH Koh).

Approximately 100m after the start, MAGSTOCK (M Rodd) mis-strode on a number of occasions when racing to the inside of BLACK THUNDER. This resulted in MAGSTOCK making contact with the hindquarters of BLACK THUNDER, turning that gelding inwards and crowding MAGSTOCK.

Shortly after passing the 800m, MAGSTOCK, which was racing to the inside of SING ENERGY, mis-strode and shifted outwards becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of SING ENERGY, which resulted in MAGSTOCK losing ground. MAGSTOCK then raced wide from the 700m.

RISING STAR raced wide throughout.

FLYING SHADOW was held up and unable to improve between the 500m and the 300m.

Passing the 250m, MISS BLANCHETT (M Nunes) checked when racing between EASTERN TOWKAY and INFANTRY. An Inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.

Over the concluding stages, INFANTRY shifted inwards making contact with FLYING SHADOW.

Jockey Juglall, the rider of INFANTRY, reported that the gelding had returned with its saddle having shifted back during the race. This was subsequently confirmed by the Veterinary Surgeon.

 RACE 5:  CLASS 2 - 1200M (POLYTRACK)

Due to a delay in the start time of Race 4, this race was put back five minutes and rescheduled to start at 1515Hrs.

After arriving at the barrier, POWER LION (S John) had its saddle readjusted.

DRAGON FURY (App R Rueven), which was fractious in the barrier, reared as the start was effected losing considerable ground. DRAGON FURY will be required to pass one starting stall test prior to being declared to race again in terms of MRA Rule 78(2).

MR FANTASTIC (N Juglall) was restless in the barrier. Trainer P Shaw was advised that a warning has been placed on MR FANTASTIC regarding its barrier manners and to take steps to improve them or action may be taken in future.

POWER LION was slow into stride.

JAY EFF EXPRESS (App K A’Isisuhairi) jumped away awkwardly.

Approaching the 900m, JAY EFF EXPRESS shifted inwards making contact with MR FANTASTIC on a couple of occasions.

Passing the 800m, POWER LION steadied outwards away from the heels of GOOD NEWS (O Chavez) when racing tight to the inside of ALBANY REUNION (J Powell).

JAY EFF EXPRESS raced wide throughout.

Approaching the 300m, GOOD NEWS was bumped when KAM’S COMET (M Nunes) shifted inwards. Shortly after, GOOD NEWS lost ground after mis-striding when racing to the inside of KAM’S COMET.

MR FANTASTIC laid outwards between the 200m and the 100m.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on JAY EFF EXPRESS which revealed no apparent abnormality.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on SUPER KENNY (App MM Firdaus) which revealed that the horse returned having bled.  RACE 6:  MANOEL NUNES STAKES
                 CLASS 3, DIV 2 - 1100M (POLYTRACK)

Due to a delay in the start time of Race 5, this race was put back five minutes and rescheduled to start at 1550Hrs.

SECRET LIBERTY (App MM Firdaus) was crowded on jumping between FAITHFULLY (App J See) and BRAHMS AND LISZT (App CK Ng), which jumped awkwardly inwards.

SPEEDY DRAGON (M Nunes) was slow to begin after jumping away awkwardly.

NOVA WARRIOR (App Z Zuriman) jumped inwards at the start making contact with the hindquarters of HIMALAYA DRAGON (App R Rueven), which in turn brushed LIM’S SHOWCASE (App R Firdhaus).

PROFESSOR X (O Chavez) raced keenly in the backstraight.

Passing the 800m, PROFESSOR X, which was racing keenly, had to be steadied off the heels of NOVA WARRIOR, which shifted inwards.

App Ng, the rider of BRAHMS AND LISZT, was fined a sum of S$500 under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for dropping his whip near the 300m.

Over the concluding stages, PROFESSOR X had to be steadied off the heels of LIM’S SHOWCASE, which shifted inwards. App R Firdhaus was subsequently shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on HIMALAYA DRAGON which revealed no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 7:  CLASS 5 - 1700M (POLYTRACK)

Due to a delay in the start time of Race 6, this race was put back five minutes and rescheduled to start at 1620Hrs.

EASY EASY (App WS Chan) and HAPPY JOY (App M Khalid) both began awkwardly.

RON (M Nunes) and GOLDEN JADE (K Fujii) bumped on jumping.

FOREVER BEST (S John) jumped awkwardly outwards bumping SPEED CRAFT (O Chavez) out onto KTRONIC (App J See).

Shortly after the start, GOLDEN JADE shifted outwards slightly and bumped heavily with RON, which in turn made contact with EASY EASY.

Near the 1200m, BLACK DIAMOND (App MM Firdaus) was crowded for room by FOREVER BEST, which was taken inwards by GOLDEN JADE, which in turn was carried inwards by EASY EASY. App Chan was subsequently shown the film of the incident and warned to exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.

SPEED CRAFT, EASY EASY and GYPSY STAR (TH Koh) all raced wide throughout.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on GOLDEN JADE which revealed that the horse returned with an irregular heart rhythm. GOLDEN JADE will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being declared to race again.

 RACE 8:  MOHD RIZUAN SHAFIQ STAKES
                 NOVICE - 1100M (POLYTRACK)

Due to a delay in the start time of Race 7, this race was put back five minutes and rescheduled to start at 1650Hrs.

KATAGAS (M Rodd) jumped awkwardly inwards and bumped SUN MIRACLE (App WS Chan).

Shortly after the start, GUILTY PLEASURES (J Powell) eased when crowded between SUN MIRACLE and RIVER OF GOLD (App MM Firdaus), which was carried outwards slightly by NOVA EAGLE (App Y Salim).

RIVER OF GOLD was difficult to settle in the backstraight.

GOLD CROWN (N Juglall) and UNSURPASSED (M Nunes) both raced wide throughout.

Approaching the turn into the straight, COURT CASE (O Chavez), which was attempting to take a run to the inside of SUN MIRACLE, had to be eased when crowded by SUN MIRACLE, which shifted inwards.

Over the concluding stages, KATAGAS eased when crowded for room between GUILTY PLEASURES and RIVER OF GOLD, which shifted outwards under pressure.

Jockey Nunes reported that UNSURPASSED was not striding out freely.  A subsequent veterinary examination confirmed this.

Jockey Chavez, when questioned regarding the poor performance of COURT CASE, stated that his mount appeared to resent racing in restricted room to the inside of SUN MIRACLE throughout and in addition, he had to ease his mount when crowded approaching the turn into the straight. Thereafter, COURT CASE was disappointed and failed to run on. His explanation was noted. COURT CASE was impounded for routine veterinary and analytical examination. The Veterinary Surgeon reported no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 9:  NEW YEAR CUP
                 SINGAPORE GROUP 3 - 1900M (POLYTRACK)

Permission was granted for Jockey TH Koh to replace Jockey M Kellady on VALBUENA as the latter was unable to make the weight. Jockey Kellady was subsequently fined a sum of S$200 in terms of MRA Rule 107(9).

Due to a delay in the start time of Race 8, this race was put back five minutes and rescheduled to start at 1725Hrs.

VALBUENA was slow to begin.

ORDER OF THE SUN (R Woodworth) and SEBROSE (A Munro) bumped on jumping.

Approaching the 300m, App MM Firdaus, the rider of EMPEROR’S BANQUET, dropped his whip. He was subsequently warned that a repetition of dropping his whip may lead to a penalty being imposed in future.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on CHEETAH ON FIRE (App K A’Isisuhairi) which revealed no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 10:  AVENGERS STABLE STAKES
                   CLASS 3, DIV 1 - 1100M (POLYTRACK)

Due to a delay in the start time of Race 9, this race was put back five minutes and rescheduled to start at 1800Hrs.

LIM’S RALLY (KB Soo) and ASSERTIVE LAD (App Z Zuriman), which bumped on jumping, were both crowded shortly after between BOARD WALK (App MM Firdaus) and LIVELY DRAGON (App R Rueven), which shifted outwards after being bumped onto the hindquarters by ASSERTIVE LAD. LUCKY GIANT (App R Hasri), which had jumped away awkwardly, shifted inwards abruptly making contact with BOARD WALK.

CLIP THE TICKET (O Chavez) and HIGH COUNCIL (App CC Wong) both raced wide throughout.

EATONS GOLD (M Nunes) was held up and unable to improve between the 300m and the 100m.

The Farrier reported that LIVELY DRAGON returned having cast its near-fore plate.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on LIM’S RALLY which revealed no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 11:  CLASS 4, DIV 1 - 1000M (POLYTRACK)

Due to a delay in the start time of Race 10, this race was put back five minutes and rescheduled to start at 1830Hrs.

FANTASTIC MAN (A Munro) was slow into stride.

FAT POWER (R Woodworth) and LADRONE (J Powell) both raced wide throughout.

Near the 700m, SUGAR MAN (N Juglall) was eased out of the race. The Veterinary Surgeon reported that the horse fractured its near-fore leg and was subsequently humanely euthanised.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on LADRONE which revealed no apparent abnormality.
