MARCH (MERLION TROPHY) MEETING
Sunday,  6 March 2016

 RACE 1:  EL PADRINO 2014, 2015 STAKES
                 CLASS 5, DIV 1 - 1200M

SPIRIT OF SPEED (App T See) jumped awkwardly outwards and bumped HOW HUGE (A Munro). HOW HUGE then shifted inwards and bumped SPIRIT OF SPEED on a couple of occasions.

TROPICAL FOREST (E Aslam) jumped awkwardly outwards and bumped SUPER EIGHT (O Chavez), which in turn made contact with LUCKY EIGHTY EIGHT (App MM Firdaus).

APPELLATION (M Nunes), which began awkwardly, was bumped shortly after the start by BANKERS CALL (App R Azhar), which shifted outwards.

BONJOUR BOB (I Saifudin) proved difficult to settle in the early stages.

BANKERS CALL, GEARIGURU (S John) and SUPER EIGHT raced wide throughout.

Near the 800m, HOW HUGE which was racing keenly, had to be steadied after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of JOE SWIPER (A Da Silva).

Passing the 300m, SPIRIT OF SPEED momentarily steadied to the inside of APPELLATION, which rolled inwards.

GEARIGURU laid outwards under pressure over the final 100m.

Subsequent veterinary examinations were requested on both APPELLATION and HOW HUGE which revealed no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 2:  SPEEDY CAT 2013 STAKES
                 INITIAITON - 1100M (POLYTRACK)

DURAN (App R Zawari) was restless in the barrier. Trainer M Walker was advised that a warning has been placed on DURAN regarding its barrier manners and to take steps to improve them or action may be taken in future.

MING’S BOY (O Chavez) and CHANGBAI MOUNTAIN (M Nunes) were both slow into stride.

PARKER (App CS Chin), which blundered on jumping, was then bumped shortly after the start by LLYNA (App WT Chung), which shifted outwards.

Shortly after the start, PRECHAGORDA (A Munro) commenced to overrace. This resulted in the mare proving extremely difficult to settle and having to be continually checked off the heels of GOLDEN SAND (R Shafiq). As a result of this, PRECHAGORDA was difficult to control and lost significant ground shortly after passing the 800m. DURAN and MING’S BOY, which were both following, were also inconvenienced in this incident. PRECHAGORDA will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial from the barrier and a veterinary examination prior to being declared to race again.

SILVER TYCOON (S John) and DAYUAN both raced wide throughout.

Passing the 300m, DAYUAN bumped when LLYNA shifted outwards

The Farrier reported that GOLDEN SAND returned having cast its off-hind plate.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on PRECHAGORDA which revealed no apparent abnormality.

 

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on DURAN which revealed that the horse returned having bled. In terms of MRA Rule 92(5), it will not be permitted to canter or gallop on the main training tracks of any racecourse for a period of five months, and may not start in any race for a period of six months, and then only after having satisfactorily passed a bleeder’s test.

 RACE 3:  BETTER THAN EVER 2012 STAKES
                 CLASS 4 - 1000M (POLYTRACK)

As there was no similar claiming rider available, the Stewards gave permission for App CC Wong to replace App R Rueven on EASY MONEY.

FEDERER (J Powell) was difficult to be loaded into the barrier. Trainer S Baertschiger was advised that a warning has been placed on FEDERER regarding its barrier manners and to take steps to improve them or action may be taken in future.

SILVER POWER (V Duric) jumped away awkwardly.

DRAGON SPIRIT (D Beasley) dipped on jumping and in so doing, made contact with GATO NEGRO (O Chavez).

Shortly after the start, GATO NEGRO checked when racing between SILVER POWER and DRAGON SPIRIT. An Inquiry into this incident will be held at a date to be fixed.

NOVA EAGLE (R Shafiq) was difficult to settle in the early stages.

FEDERER, GATO NEGRO and BE BOLD (CW Brown) all raced wide throughout.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on SILVER POWER which revealed no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 4:  TUXEDO MOON 2011 STAKES
                 KRANJI STAKES D, DIV 2 - 1400M

FRANCES (App Z Zuriman) lost ground after jumping away awkwardly.

PO’DE OURO (App CC Wong) was crowded on jumping between FREE HAPPY (M Nunes), which jumped inwards and LUCKY BOY (K A’Isisuhairi), which jumped outwards.

Approaching the 1300m, DUAL IMPACT (I Azhar), which was racing keenly, had to be steadied for a number of strides after becoming awkwardly placed on the heels of HAPPY SAGA (D Beasley).

DUAL IMPACT, which continued to race keenly, made contact with the running rail on a number of occasions near the 1000m.

NOVA SPIRIT (R Shafiq) proved difficult to settle in the middle stages.

Near the 100m, NOVA SPIRIT was momentarily inconvenienced when HAPPY SAGA was carried outwards slightly by FREE HAPPY, which in turn had shifted to the outside of LUCKY BOY.

 RACE 5:  MEXICAN ROSE 2010 STAKES
                 CLASS 4, DIV 2 - 1400M

After arriving at the barrier, EL CAMINO (R Woodworth) had its saddle readjusted.

CASING ROYAL (D Beasley) jumped awkwardly outwards and bumped NIGHT FLIGHT (O Chavez) out onto ASPEN (M Nunes).

EL CAMINO jumped awkwardly outwards and bumped MAREA NEGRO (A Munro).

KIRKS RYKER (V Duric) jumped awkwardly outwards at the start and made contact with the hindquarters of HOT GOLD (CW Brown).

ASPEN raced wide throughout.

Near the 800m, HOT GOLD, which was racing keenly, steadied outwards to avoid the heels of KIRKS RYKER.

MAREA NEGRO was held up for clear running between the 600m until near the 400m.

Approaching the winning post, EL CAMINO shifted outwards and bumped NIGHT FLIGHT.

The Farrier reported that NIGHT FLIGHT returned having cast its off-hind plate.

Subsequent veterinary examinations were requested on both CASING ROYAL and GROENEWEGEN (R Shafiq) which revealed no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 6:  BEAU BRUMMELL 2009 STAKES
                 CLASS 5, DIV 2 - 1200M

BLACK DIAMOND (App MM Firdaus) reared and struck its head on top of the barrier as the start was effected.

BROWNE’S ANATOMY (O Chavez) lost ground after beginning extremely awkwardly.

GREENBACK (App M Khalid) jumped outwards at the start bumping heavily with YUE YUAN (App I Amirul), which in turn shifted outwards making contact with SIMPANG (App CC Wong).

BIG BANG KING (App CS Chin) and BREAKING VAULTS (M Nunes) bumped on jumping.

BLACK DIAMOND raced wide throughout.

Near the 300m, BREAKING VAULTS had to be eased and taken outwards across the heels of FLYING NEKO (App WT Chung), which rolled inwards.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on BROWNE’S ANATOMY which revealed no apparent abnormality.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on BLACK DIAMOND which revealed that the horse returned lame off-fore. BLACK DIAMOND will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial from the barrier and a veterinary examination prior to being declared to race again.

 RACE 7:  WHY BE 2006, 2007, 2008 STAKES
                 PROGRESS - 1200M

IDYLLIC SCENERY (App R Zawari) and GOLD STOCK (TH Koh) were both crowded on jumping between LIM’S BATTLE (KB Soo) and LUMINIFF LAD (D Beasley), which jumped awkwardly inwards.

Q NINE MAGIC (App WS Chan) and LIM’S KNIGHT (O Chavez) bumped on jumping. This resulted in LIM’S KNIGHT carrying HERO I AM (M Kellady) outwards onto LIM’S BATTLE.

Shortly after passing the 1000m, LIM’S KNIGHT steadied outwards across the heels of LUMINIFF LAD and in so doing, momentarily inconvenienced HERO I AM.

Passing the 100m, Q NINE MAGIC momentarily steadied off the heels of GOLD STOCK, which rolled inwards.

 RACE 8:  NINETYFIVE EMPEROR 2004, 2005 STAKES
                 KRANJI STAKES D, DIV 1 - 1400M

ONE MORE ACHIEVER (K A’Isisuhairi) jumped away awkwardly.

BRANKSOME (App WT Chung) jumped away extremely awkwardly and in so doing, shifted outwards bumping LEADERSHIP (A Da Silva).

ONE MORE ACHIEVER commenced to overrace for a short distance passing the 1000m.

Near the 800m, BRANKSOME had to be eased after racing up onto the heels of PUZZLE (App I Amirul).

Approaching the turn into the straight, PERFECT CHALLENGER (O Placais) was held up and unable to improve.

Approaching the 250m, KNOW EACH OTHER (App MM Firdaus) and CAPTIVATE (A Munro) brushed on a couple of occasions. Shortly after, ONE MORE ACHIEVER was then buffeted between KNOW EACH OTHER, which rolled inwards and PERFECT CHALLENGER, which rolled outwards.

Jockey Da Silva, the rider of LEADERSHIP, was fined a sum of S$500 under MRA Rule 152(5)(a) for dropping his whip near the 150m.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on CAPTIVATE which revealed no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 9:  MERLION TROPHY
                 SINGAPORE GROUP 2 (WFA) - 1200M

EL PADRINO (O Chavez) was slow to begin.

GOAL KEEPER (A Munro) raced wide throughout.

FAALTLESS (M Kellady), which raced poorly, will be required to pass a 1000m gallop trial and veterinary examination prior to being declared to race again.

A subsequent veterinary examination was requested on STEPITUP (D Beasley) which revealed that the horse returned not striding out freely.

 RACE 10:  QUE EXPRESION 2003 STAKES
                   CLASS 4 - 1800M

ZIP A DEE DOO DAH (A Munro) was slow into stride.

Shortly after the start, ARCHER COMPANY (E Chaves) and KENNEDY (I Saifudin) bumped.

 

Near the 1700m, ARHAT (A Da Silva) shifted outwards abruptly and in so doing, slightly inconvenienced TARAMEA (App I Amirul).

ACROSS THE SEA (O Chavez) raced wide throughout.

Subsequent veterinary examinations were requested on both SMART IDEA (V Duric) and MAGSTOCK (CW Brown) which revealed no apparent abnormality.

 RACE 11:  BLIZZ BLESS 2002 STAKES
                   CLASS 4, DIV 1 - 1400M

STAR CHOICE (M Nunes) was slow to begin.

RUSTY BROWN (R Shafiq) was slow into stride.

Near the 1200m, RUM N RAISINS (E Chaves) momentarily steadied off the heels of SUN FORCE (App CC Wong). Shortly after, RUM N RAISINS rolled inwards, resulting in SATCHMO (I Saifudin) being momentarily steadied. RUM N RAISINS was then taken outwards abruptly in order to alleviate the pressure to SATCHMO. For a short distance thereafter, SATCHMO commenced to race keenly.

Near the 700m, SUN FORCE momentarily steadied when racing to the inside of INTENSE GOLD (V Duric).

GRAVITY (M Zaki) raced wide throughout.

SATCHMO was held up and unable to improve between the 600m and the 300m.

Subsequent veterinary examinations were requested on both ROBIN HOOD (D Beasley) and DAMON (O Chavez) which revealed no apparent abnormality.

At the conclusion of an inquiry on Sunday, 6 March 2016, Jockey K A’Isisuhairi, the rider of ONE MORE ACHIEVER, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding ONE MORE ACHIEVER in Race 2 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Sunday, 31 January 2016, shortly after the start, he allowed his mount to shift inwards, when insufficiently clear, thereby resulting in MR DE NIRO (M Nunes) having to check. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea, the degree of interference and carelessness and submissions from Jockey A’Isisuhairi that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meetings on Friday, 11 March 2016 and Sunday, 13 March 2016. The Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races and acting under MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin on Monday, 14 March 2016 until Sunday, 20 March 2016 both dates inclusive (two Singapore Race Days).  He was advised of his right of appeal.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea, the degree of interference and carelessness and submissions from Jockey A’Isisuhairi that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meetings on Friday, 11 March 2016 and Sunday, 13 March 2016. The Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races and acting under MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin on Monday, 21 March 2016 until Sunday, 27 March 2016 both dates inclusive (two Singapore Race Days). He was advised of his right of appeal.

This penalty will be served consecutively following the completion of his suspension for careless riding from Monday, 14 March 2016 until Sunday, 20 March 2016 both dates inclusive (two Singapore Race Days). 

 

RACE 10 [TF162]

At the conclusion of an inquiry on Sunday, 6 March 2016, Jockey A Munro, the rider of SUPERSONICSURPRISE, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding SUPERSONICSURPRISE in Race 10 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Sunday, 31 January 2016, shortly after passing the 200m, whilst riding it along, he allowed his mount to shift inwards, when insufficiently clear, thereby resulting in DREAMCATCHER (M Nunes) having to check. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea, the degree of interference and carelessness and submissions from Jockey Munro that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meetings on Friday, 11 March 2016 and Sunday, 13 March 2016. The Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races and acting under MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin on Monday, 14 March 2016 until Sunday, 20 March 2016 both dates inclusive (two Singapore Race Days). He was advised of his right of appeal.

RACE 3 [TF166]

On Sunday, 6 March 2016, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reasons for AMAZON GOLD (M Nunes) having to check when racing to the inside of RUM N RAISINS (D Beasley), HIGH COUNCIL (B Vorster) and ZEUS (CW Brown) to its inside near the 1000m. It was established that near the 1000m, RUM N RAISINS shifted inwards and away from HIGH COUNCIL. This resulted in AMAZON GOLD having to check when crowded between RUM N RAISINS and ZEUS. In the circumstances, no blame could be attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken.

FRIDAY, 12 FEBRUARY 2016:

RACE 9 [TF208]

On Sunday, 6 March 2016, the Stewards concluded an Inquiry into the reasons for NOVA STRIKE (E Chaves) having to check and SMART IDEA (App Z Zuriman) and NANDOWRA (S John) both having to ease when racing to the inside of POSEIDON (App R Rueven) shortly after the start. It was established that shortly after the start, NOVA STRIKE was carried inwards slightly by NANDOWRA, which shifted inwards and away from POSEIDON. This resulted in SMART IDEA having to ease. In the circumstances, no blame could be attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken.

SUNDAY, 14 FEBRUARY 2016:

RACE 2 [TF210]

At the conclusion of an inquiry on Sunday, 06 March 2016, Jockey K Fujii, the rider of SOUTHERN CHIEF, pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under MRA Rule 44(9)(a)(ii) in that whilst riding SOUTHERN CHIEF in Race 2 at the Singapore Turf Club Meeting on Sunday, 14 February 2016, near the 700m, he allowed his mount to shift inwards, thereby crowding MAN OF POWER (D Beasley), which resulted in FITZROY (CW Brown) having to be eased and losing its rightful running. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record, guilty plea, the degree of interference and carelessness and submissions from Jockey Fujii that he has been engaged to ride at the Singapore Race Meetings on Friday, 11 March 2016 and Sunday, 13 March 2016. The Stewards determined to suspend his licence to ride in races and acting under MRA Rule 48(5), the commencement of the suspension was deferred to begin on Monday, 14 March 2016 until Sunday, 20 March 2016 both dates inclusive (two Singapore Race Days). He was advised of his right of appeal.

RACE 10 [TF218]

On Sunday, 6 March 2016, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reasons for SATELLITE PRINCE (App M Jailani) having to check when racing to the inside of SCOUT DONE (TH Koh) near the 200m. It was established that near the 200m, SATELLITE PRINCE eased when crowded to the inside of SCOUT DONE, which shifted inwards under pressure. In the circumstances, no blame could be attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken. However, Jockey Koh was warned and advised that he must exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.

FRIDAY, 19 FEBRUARY 2016:

RACE 3 [TF231]

On Sunday, 6 March 2016, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reasons for DAVINCI (K A’Isisuhairi) having to check off the heels of WINNING CAUSE (B Vorster), which was also checked off the heels of BAAB AL NASR (App CC Wong) near the 1200m. It was established that near the 1200m, BAAB AL NASR, which was racing keenly, shifted outwards after racing up onto the heels of THESE STREETS (V Duric). This resulted in WINNING CAUSE being carried wider with DAVINCI also being inconvenienced. In the circumstances, no blame could be attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken.

SUNDAY, 21 FEBRUARY 2016:

RACE 3 [TF255]

On Sunday, 6 March 2016, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reasons for ONE MORE ACHIEVER (K A’Isisuhairi) having to check when racing to the inside of STARSKY (A Munro), which was racing to the inside and behind GOLDEN MILE (V Duric), MASTER BANGER (K Fujii) and CONVICT (App R Azhar) near the 900m. It was established that near the 900m, MASTER BANGER, which was racing keenly and GOLDEN MILE both raced tight when crowded to the inside of CONVICT, which shifted inwards marginally. STARSKY and ONE MORE ACHIEVER both had to be eased in consequence. In the circumstances, no blame could be attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken. However, App R Azhar was warned and advised that he must exercise greater care when shifting ground in future.

RACE 9 [TF261]

On Sunday, 6 March 2016, the Stewards concluded an inquiry into the reasons for GOLDEN SWORD (V Duric) having to check when racing between REACH FOR THE SUN (App CC Wong) and MORITZ ECLIPSE (K A’Isisuhairi) near the 300m. It was established that near the 300m, MORITZ ECLIPSE laid outwards making contact with GOLDEN SWORD. This resulted in MORITZ ECLIPSE being turned outwards. At the same time, REACH FOR THE SUN rolled inwards, resulting in GOLDEN SWORD being buffeted for a short distance. In the circumstances, no blame could be attributed to any rider and as such, no further action was taken.

FRIDAY, 4 MARCH 2016:

RACE 8 [TF306]

At the conclusion of an inquiry on Sunday, 06 March 2016, Jockey R Shafiq, the rider of EXCELLENT WINNER, pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 41(6)(c)(i) in that he used his whip forward of the shoulder on the gelding near the 300m. When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account his record and guilty plea. He was fined a sum of S$1,000 and was advised of his right of appeal.
