An Objection was lodged by Jockey David, the rider of second placegetter, ATHENA, against REDDOT RISING (V Duric), being declared the winner, on the grounds of interference in the straight. After deliberation and considering all of the evidence, the Panel of Stewards were of the opinion that near the 250m, ATHENA shifted outwards to obtain clear running and shortly after, made contact with the hindquarters of REDDOT RISING, turning that gelding inwards. ATHENA then raced tight between REDDOT RISING and WAIPAKIHI (CW Brown), which rolled outwards. REDDOT RISING then laid inwards slightly and ATHENA rolled outwards with these runners bumping for a short distance. The Panel of Stewards were of the opinion that the alleged interference was not sufficient to warrant an alteration to the placing and as such, the Objection was overruled and the result stood.
