Metal Storm colt fetches RM525,000

PENANG,  26 December 2003

A two-year-old brown Australian colt by Metal Storm out of the Northfields mare Sharika set a Malaysian sales record when he went under the hammer for RM525,000 at the 2003 National Premier Sale here today.

The sale was originally scheduled for November 21 in Ipoh but had to be postponed due to unforseen circumstances.

But for the National Stud Farm and auctioneers Magic Millions Sales Pty Ltd, the wait was well worth it as two other lots also fetched more than RM200,000 each.

A bay Australian colt by Bletchley Park out of the Old Spice mare Valmere was sold for RM270,000.

A black/brown gelding by Commands out of the Just A Dancer mare Zigfield’s Folly was knocked down for RM220,000.

The most expensive filly was one by Kingdom Bay out of Follow Me Follow (by Gaius), who is a half-sister to Tunku Gold Cup winner AFTER ME PLEASE.

But the talk of the sale was the most expensive single transaction since the inception of the sale in 1991.

The successful bidder was Beh Chin Pheng of Majestic Stable who spent nearly RM1 million at the sale which was held for the first time in Penang and only the second time outside of Perak where the National Stud Farm is located.

The sale of 32 imports and 29 local breds grossed RM4.105 million with the average being RM67,295. The imports fetch RM3.382 million and the locals RM723,000.

Average price for the imports was RM105,687 and the Malaysian breds RM24,931, easily surpassing last year’s figures of RM68,791 and RM21,107 respectively.
