Ong receives Datukship

PENANG Turf Club (PNTC) President Ong Eng Khuan, who has worked tirelessly to bring international fame and recognition for the club, was well rewarded by the State government yesterday.

Penang-born Ong, 57, was conferred the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN) award which carries the title of "Datuk" by the Yang Di Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas in conjunction with his 65th birthday.

Ong, a solicitor, was a Committee Member of the Penang Bar Committee in 1976 and from 1979 to 1988. He was also Chairman of the Penang Bar Committee in 1993. He sat on the Bar Council Disciplinary Committee Panel from 1988 to 2002.

Ong joined the PNTC as an Ordinary Member on February 15, 1974, and was elected into the Committee in 1993. In 2001, he became the Club’s President.

Ong has been a Committee Member of the Malayan Racing Association since 1999. He was nominated a Board Member of Lembaga Totalisator Malaysia from 1988 to 2000 and from 2002 till today.
