Mohd Zafir, one of three trainers in danger of losing their licences for the next season, made a strong statement at Penang today when he saddled BABY STAR to victory in the RM150,000 Class 1 Anniversary Cup over 1,700m.

The six-year-old chestnut New Zealand gelding by Deputy Governor out of the Kaapstad mare Kaapture The Heart was transferred to the veteran trainer two months ago and has now started four times for him for a win and a second.

At his peak, BABY STAR finished third BABY CHAMPION in the Perak Derby and was fourth to HUMPHREY in the same event this year. He has now won seven times in 33 starts.

Zafir, together with David Chua and Lim Kwee Huat, faced the MRA licencing sub-committee here yesterday to show cause why their licences should be renewed for 2005. A decision will be taken when the MRA committee meet next Saturday.
