Dreyfuss outsprints Ninetyfive Emperor

SINGAPORE,  13 June 2004

DREYFUSS
DREYFUSS, who was surprisingly left out of the Singapore Airlines International Cup line-up last month despite finishing third in the Singapore Gold Cup last November, made his case when he defeated NINETYFIVE EMPEROR in the S$250,000 Patrons’ Bowl today.

NINETYFIVE EMPEROR, who dislodged his rider when starting a raging favourite in the Lion City Cup (1,200m) last month, was expected to make amends in the first leg of the Singapore 4YO Challenge over 1,400m.

But DREYFUSS (4 b.nz.g Oregon - My Amazing Grace by Siege Perilous), ridden by Eddie Wilkinson, outsprinted 12-time winner NINETYFIVE EMPEROR by a neck, three days after jockey Richard Lim’s 12-month disqualification over his handling of the horse last start was confirmed.

A NZ$32,000 purchase at the 2001 New Zealand Select Colts Sale, DREYFUSS looks hot favourite to go on to win the next two lengths, the Derby Trial (1,600m) and the Singapore Derby (2,000m) next month.
