Penang-based trainer Wong Kong Fatt was was
Monday fined RM10,000 for misconduct under MRA Rule 53(b)(i).
Wong was found guilty in that he, as a trainer licensed by the MRA, did during the course of an inquiry on Nov 7, relative to the veterinary scratching of his charge AKASHI from its engagement in Race 5 at the Selangor Turf Club Meeting on Nov 7, provided misleading evidence at the aforementioned inquiry in respect of his personal mobile phone usage on Nov 7 and its whereabouts, knowing such evidence to be misleading and not in accordance with the facts. In assessing the penalty, the Stewards were mindful of the contrition displayed by Wong and also that he had an unblemished disciplinary record in respect of similar matters over about 22 years in the industry. Further, Wong was strongly reminded of his obligation under MRA Notice "Stable Management" that he is to be fully aware of what is occurring at his stables and that he must not delegate too much authority to his subordinate staff. Another Penang based trainer Lim Kwee Kuat was also hauled up and fined RM3.000 on a handphone usage charge. Lim was penalised under Rule 234(A) with particulars being that whilst in the trainers’ room, which is a restricted area, he did during the course of racing, received and made a number of calls from his handphone. |
