Morning gallops on main track at Kranji

SINGAPORE,  9 April 2004

With effect from 14 April 2004, trainers will have the opportunity to work their horses on the main turf track at the Singapore Turf Club (SNTC) every Wednesday from 8.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.

(Unlike the three Malaysian clubs, the SNTC does not have a No 2 turf track for gallops. The No 2 track at Kranji is a fibresand track used for both racing and training.)

Lau Kian Heng, the SNTC’s Senior Vice President (Racing) said the suggestion was raised by several trainers during our regular feedback sessions to discuss improvements to racing and training."

"We felt the idea had merit and was worth pursuing. Further discussions were subsequently held with the trainers to iron out the details, including operational matters and costs. I am glad that we were able to implement this quickly."

The maximum number of gallops available to each trainer per month will be based on 10% of the total number of racing stable stalls allocated to the trainer, rounding up to the nearest round figure. For example, a trainer allocated 36 racing stable stalls can have a maximum of 4 gallops on the turf track per month.

Horses will enter the turf track at the 1,800m starting point, gallop on the outside of the turf track and exit at the 2,400m starting point.

To help cover the additional cost that will be incurred in maintaining the turf track once it is opened for gallops, a token fee of $20 will be levied by the club for each gallop.
