Hunii captures Sprint Trophy

PENANG,  12 September 2004

HUNII returns to scale with
Oscar Chavez astride.

HUNII, one of the most improved horses in training, had a dream debut in the classics when he carved out a fighting win in the RM1 million Astro Wah Lai Toi Sprint Trophy over 1,400m here today.

Only three starts back, the five-year-old black/brown Australian gelding by Clay Hero out of the Osmunda mare Arvada Miss was still racing in Class 2.

After winning his last start in April, the Marinis van Breukelen-trained HUNII was given a let-up and resumed in superb condition today, beating Piala Emas Sultan Selangor winner FLYING DIAMOND and twice Pesta Pulau Cup winner EASY JOGGER.

HUNII, who cost only A$18,000 as a yearling, has now won six of his 12 starts.

The victory was a grand send-off present for jockey Oscar Chavez, who leaves on Tuesday with Benny Woodworth for a three-month stint in Macau.
