Veteran jockey arrested by police PENANG, 30 July 2004 |
||
A veteran Singaporean jockey was arrested for
allegedly driving a cloned vehicle and assaulting his wife at a hotel at
Penang Road here, according to a news report published today.
The 45-year-old jockey was picked up at about 3 am on Wednesday after his wife, in her late 40s, lodged a report against him at the Penang Road police station. He had allegedly slapped and kicked her following an argument. The jockey’s car was taken to the George Town district police headquarters when he failed to produce the registration document. Police are checking with Singapore's vehicle licensing board to determine whether the car was cloned. (Car cloning involves taking the particulars of a legitimate vehicle and applying them to a stolen or condemned car.) The jockey was remanded for a week by a magistrate’s court yesterday pending investigations on suspected assault and forgery for the purpose of cheating under Section 468 of the Penal Code. |
