Laurie Laxon may 'lose' a winner

SINGAPORE,  13 December 2004

Laurie Laxon, who saddled two winners at Kranji last week to hit the century mark, needs one more winner at the end-of-season meeting this Friday to be certain of keeping his record-breaking feat.

This is because Laxon is in danger of "losing" one win after the post-race blood sample of PAN EXPRESS, which won the Benchmark 53, Div 1 - 1,200m sprint on November 14, revealed the presence of 3-Hydroxy-N-Methylmorphinan.

On November 30, Laxon was advised of the analyst’s report and his attention was drawn to the contents of MRA Rule 201.(1)(e) and MRA Regulation 29.3 relating to the referee sample.

Last Monday, December 6, Laxon exercised his right to have PAN EXPRESS’ Referee Sample sent overseas for independent analysis and the inquiry into the matter has been adjourned pending the analysis of the referee sample.

If the referee sample confirms the first test result, then PAN EXPRESS will certainly be disqualified from the race.

PAN EXPRESS was then ridden by Jason Waddell.
