Super Racer captures Lion
City Cup

SUPER RACER, who ran a smack-up fifth to
KRONOS in the Kranji Sprint a fortnight ago, turned the tables on his
stablemate when he put up a splendid display to win the $350,000 Lion City
Cup over 1,200m at Kranji here today.
Partnered by Hong Kong based French ace Gerald Mosse, the four-year-old brown Australian gelding by Last Tycoon out of the At Talaq mare Lovey came from some way off the pace to beat KRONOS (5 ch.a.g Zedrich - Heythrop by Prego) by three-quarter of a length to give trainer Charles Leck his fourth success in the series in the past five years. The improving FIRST TOUCH (4 b.nz.g Dehere - Twiggy Kima by Twig Moss) finished third of 11 runners. He has now won six of his 12 starts in Singapore. SUPER RACER was a A$150,000 purchase by Gai Waterhouse at the 2001 Magic Millions Premier Yearling Sale and was shipped out to Singapore after winning just once in nine starts back home. The 1-2 finish by Leck, who has MUSCLE MAN in the S$3m Singapore Airlines International Cup tomorrow, goes some way to compensate for the failure red-hot favourite NINETYFIVE EMPEROR who dislodged his rider J Saimee after clipping the heels of another runner. |
