Exciting variations to Singapore races 

SINGAPORE,  12 February 2004

To provide more variety in the racing programme as well as more opportunities for owners to race their horses, the Singapore Turf Club will be introducing variations to the Club’s present range of races from March 2004.

Graduation Handicaps

These races will be for one-time winners aged not older than four years and will carry prizemoney of $48,000. Graduation handicaps are aimed at accelerating the upward progress of young horses with potential.

Class 3 Premier races

Class 3 Premier races will offer prizemoney of $75,000 and will be scheduled as minor feature events to encourage the upward progression of horses from Class 3 to Classes 2 and 1.

Kranji Stakes races

Kranji Stakes races are a combination of Handicap and Conditions races and are targeted at horses rated 70 and above. The objective of the Kranji Stakes races is to encourage higher-rated horses to compete. These races which will carry prizemoney of $100,000 will add variety to the programme as well as ensuring competitive racing for our higher-rated horses. The weights for these races will be structured as follows:

Rating 80 to 84 52 kg
Rating 75 to 79 50.5 kg
Rating 70 to 74 49 kg
  • winners of Group races to carry 1 kg penalty (This penalty is not cumulative for multiple Group winners)
  • maximum penalty of 6 points to winner
  • no penalties for placed horses
  • no apprentice allowance will be allowed
