Velu disqualified one year

Kuala Lumpur trainer K Velu has been disqualified one year for misconduct after the Stewards yesterday concluded their inquiry into his conduct during the inquiry held on the 22nd December 2003 in relation to the items seized from his stable. Initial evidence was taken from Velu and assistant Steward Mr Lee Seng He. During the course of the inquiry, Velu who chose not to be present left, and therefore the matter was heard in his absence. Velu was issued with two charges under MRA Rule 53(b)(i) for misconduct, the particulars being that on the 22nd of December 2003 during the course of the inquiry in respect of the items seized from his stables, he did:- i. misconduct himself by tampering with Exhibit 15 in that he poured some of the contents of that exhibit onto his hand, some of which spilled onto the inquiry table; ii. misconduct himself by tampering with Exhibits 11 or 12 in that he removed and consumed orally one of the phenylbutazone tablets. Velu was found guilty of both charges and he was disqualified for a period of six months on each count. He will therefore serve a total of 1 year disqualification which will run consecutive to the three (3) year disqualification imposed earlier. Velu’s disqualification in respect of these charges will commence from 21 December 2006 and to expire on the 20th December 2007. He will be informed of his right of appeal. |
