IPOH,  16 April 2004

Trainer Wilming Yeo was today fined a total of RM30,000 on two charges relating to the two banned substances found in his stable In Ipoh last month.

Yeo pleaded guilty to the two charges under Rule 203(e)(ii) for possessing prohibited substances "Oralject P-Butazone Paste" (Phenylbutazone) and "Oralject Claire Gel" (Clenbuterol) without the authorisation of the Official Veterinary Surgeon.

He was fined RM15,000 on each count.

The Stipendiary Steward, assisted by Ipoh-based Veterinary Sugeon and security personnel, had conducted a routine inspection on Yeo and trainer Stephen Cook’s stable on March 15.

While there was no discovery in Cook’s yard, the authorities found the two banned items in Yeo’s stable.

Just last month, the authorities staged one of the biggest drug-finding operations, involving about 40 horses stationed at Batu Gantong in Penang.

All the swabs taken from the 40 horses which were from seven different trainers, returned negative to prohibited substances.
