For former Singapore galloper GOLDEN ACE, the
grass is definitely greener on the other side of the causeway.
Since his relocation to Malaysia to be trained by, and later sold to,
Prakhash Pereira in Ipoh, the five-year-old chestnut Australian gelding by
Desert Prince out of the Caerleon mare Soyinca has made phenomenal progress.
Although GOLDEN ACE won four races in Singapore, he was nowhere near the
top of the pack at Kranji. But in Malaysia, he was placed in three starts
before he literally ran away with the RM500,000 Coronation Cup over 1600m
here today.
Ridden for the first time in Malaysia by Leong Yoon Fei, who had scored
thrice on the gelding in Singapore, GOLDEN ACE made all the running to win
the weight-for-age event by seven-and-a-half lengths.
SUPREME HAPPINESS (6 b.nz.g Masterclass - Proms by Centaine) finished
second with XTHEREST (8 br.nz.g Kashani - Chantal Marie by Grosvenor) third.
TIGER IN THE WOODS, whose racing preparation was interrupted twice by
five months or more since September last year, pushed aside his problems with
an all-the-way win in the RM250,000 Astro Wah Lai Toi Charity Cup over
2000m.
It was the eighth win in 38 starts for the brown Australian gelding by
Greig out of the Top Post mare Postette. His previous best win was the Otard Cup
(1600m) last year.
SPEEDY WONG CHOY (6 b.nz.g Bigstone - Bellota’s Jewel by Gold And
Ivory) completed a double for the meeting when he defied topweight to
capture the RM70,000 Mitavite Stayers Trophy for Class 2 horses over 1600m.
