Increased bonus for "triple crown" series

KUALA LUMPUR,  19 January 2005

Any horse which wins all three legs of the Selangor Turf Club (SLTC) Triple Crown Series this year stands to receive a bonus of RM750,000, an increase of RM250,000 from the last two years.

In addition, SLTC also announced a new consolation bonus of RM250,000 to any horse which wins any two legs of the series.

The Triple Crown Series consists of the RM500,000 Tunku Gold Cup, which be run on Feb 13, the RM750,000 Selangor Gold Cup (April 17) and the RM1.5 million Piala Emas Sultan Selangor (June 19).

"This (the Triple Crown Series) has drawn a lot of interest and excitement among the race goers, media, jockeys, trainers and owners," said SLTC deputy chairman Datuk Richard Cham.

"This is evident by the fact that the three classic race series had attracted large crowds to the Selangor Turf Club."

The SLTC has also established a twinning agreement with Korea Racing Club last year with the exchange of races and jockeys between the two clubs. The SLTC Silver Plate will be staged at the Seoul Racecourse sometime in late July or early August while the KRA Trophy hosted by the SLTC is scheduled during the Piala Emas Sultan Selangor meeting in June.
