12 jockeys and trainers to show cause

KUALA LUMPUR,  19 October 2005

Five trainers and seven jockeys will have to face the Malayan Racing Association (MRA) to show cause why their MRA licences should be renewed for the new season in 2006.

Trainers Lim Hoon Seng, Henry Cheah Peng Lum and Lim Kwee Huat, all based in Penang, Hoy Kee Poh from Ipoh and the Kuala Lumpur-based Yashaiya Ahmad are to appear before the MRA Committee which will meet in Singapore on Dec 2.

It is understood that all five are considered to have performed "below par" this season and also failed to meet the necessary 50 points criteria for stable management, performance and disciplinary record set by the governing body.

Lim Hoon Seng have garnered only 49 points followed by Lim Kwee Huat (46), who will face the MRA for the second consecutive year. Hoy has 42.5 points, Cheah 38.25 points and Yashaiya, who is currently on six-month leave, 32.5 points.

The jockeys who have "under-performed or with poor disciplinary records" are David Ow Yang, Vellaikannu Palanisamy, Parama V Sivan and Garnet Sharrol. Three apprentices, Saravanan Kanappah, Martin Koh and Jason Yeoh are among those called up to show cause.

Apart from Sivan who has ridden 9 winners (7 in Malaysia and 2 in Singapore) and Saravanan (K Sara), with two wins in Singapore, the rest have yet to ride a winner this season.
