Suresh Chandran to make 'home' debut

IPOH,  21 September 2005

Perth trained Malaysian jockey Suresh Chandran will be making his "home" debut at the Perak Turf Club's September/October meeting starting in Ipoh on Saturday.

Chandran, 28, was granted an apprentice licence on June 7, 2001 and has successfully completed his four-year apprenticeship. He was granted a full-fledged jockeys' licence by the Racing Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) on August 1, 2005.

Chandran has ridden 72 winners from a total of 668 rides. He has also ridden in New South Wales when on a three-month attachment to May Lees, for whom he rode four winners. And early this year he rode five more winners for the same trainer.

Chandran goes to scale at 50kg.

Chandran is the second Perth trained jockey to return home this year, following that of Rio Burnett who has since been granted a MRA jockey’s licence.
