Squirt to take on seven Malaysian horses

PENANG,  1 September 2005

SQUIRT will become the first Singapore trained horse to race in Malaysia for more than six years when the Penang Turf Club Sprint Trophy Meeting opens here tomorrow.

The Class 4 - 1400m open handicap tomorrow will see the Charles Leck trained SQUIRT (7 br.nz.g Senor Pete - Scatter Cat by Spectacular Love), to be ridden by Saimee Jumaat, take on seven Malaysian horses in the first of six races this meeting which are opened to Singapore entries.

SQUIRT is the only Singapore runner left in the RM80,000 event after the Don Baertschiger trained RUY LOPEZ was withdrawn on veterinary grounds when acceptances closed this morning.

Singapore trained horses will be participating in Penang under international races conditions, being housed in quarantine stables away from the local horses and training at different times.

On Sunday, Leck's trio of PACIFIC BUTTERFLY, OCEAN DANCER and BEVERLY are handicapped in the RM100,000 Class 3 Open Handicap over 1200m in which there are six Malaysian entries.

The main event on Sunday, the RM200,000 Equine Capital Cup, will see the Leck-trained GRAND CANYON take on nine Malaysian entries.

Next Sunday GRAND CANYON together with stablemates NINETYFIVE EMPEROR and MAGICAL CIGAR, the Patrick Shaw trained QUE EXPRESION and LIM'S CLASSIC, trained by John Meagher, are entered for Malaysia's richest sprint, the RM1m Astro Wah Lai Toi Sprint Trpohy.

Two other Leck horses, FAITHFUL FALCON and HAPPY FEELINGS, are also due to run next weekend.
