The first cross-border race meeting in Penang
next month has attracted a total of 16 Singapore trained horses, represented
by four trainers.
Apart from NINETYFIVE EMPEROR, GRAND CANYON, LIM’S CLASSIC, MAGICAL CIGAR and QUE EXPRESSION, who are entered for the RM1m Astro Wah Lai Toi Sprint Trophy (1400m), 11 horses will be contesting four other open races - two each in Classes 3 and 4 - during the Sprint Trophy Meeting. The bulk comes from the stable of trainer Charles Leck who is aiming to win the Sprint Trophy with NINETIFIVE EMPEROR, GRAND CANYON and MAGICAL CIGAR. LECK will also be bringing BEVERLY PARK, FAITHFUL FALCON, OCEAN DANCER, PACIFIC BUTTERFLY (all Class 3), COSMIC PRINCE, HAPPY FEELINGS, HIGHLAND GOLD, ROYAL JADE and SQUIRT (all Class 4) to Penang. John Meagher, who trains LIM’S CLASSIC, has also entered Class 3 galloper IDEAL EXPRESS. QUE EXPRESION is trained by Patrick Shaw. Former Kuala Lumpur based trainer Don Baertschiger has entered Class 4 galloper RUY LOPEZ for the first weekend of the meeting. The first weekend of the Sprint Trophy will feature the RM100,000 Class 3 Open race over 1200m, the RM80,000 Class 4 open race over 1400m and the inaugural running of the RM200,000 Equine Capital Cup over 1400m. GRAND CANYON and MAGICAL CIGAR are also entered for this event. The RM1m Astro Wah Lai Toi Sprint Trophy has attracted a total of 28 horses but the field will be limited to 16 runners with four emergency acceptors. The Equine Capital Cup has attracted 14 entries so all will start. |
