Jockey-turned-trainer Lam Mun Chiew, who has yet to saddle a runner this season, has been granted six-month leave of absence until July 9. The former glamour boy of the saddle has not enjoyed much success preparing horses since granted a licence in 2001. That year, he saddled three winners. Ipoh based Lam improved his tally to seven in 2002 and matched that figure in 2003. However, last year he managed only three winners. Lam's training highlight thus was winning the Vice Regal Memorial Trophy with SUNSHINE TOUCH in Penang on September 13, 2003. Meanwhile, Penang based trainer Bonny Ng has yet to apply to have his licence re-instated despite the expiry of his six-month leave of absence in January. Ng took leave after saddling two winners in the first half of last year and being left with only a handful of horses in his stables. Ng had his best season in 2002 when he finished second to James Brogan in the trainers' table with 35 winners. |
