LIANG XIN’s phenomenal rise to the top was
capped by a courageous win in the RM200,000 Sultan Gold Vase over the Ipoh
1100m straight course today.
A runaway winner in his first four starts, the four-year-old chestnut
Australian gelding by Lion Cavern out of She’s A Pipe Dream (by Jackson
Square) was beaten into fourth in the second leg of the SLTC Juvenile
Million Challenge (1600m) last time out after which his rider was suspended
one month over his handling of the gelding.
With a change of rider to Saimee Jumaat today, LIANG XIN (late Lion’s
Prospect) defeated ENCHANTED PRINCE and RUNNING FLAME in a thrilling
three-way photo. LABU LABU, who had won this race for the past three years,
finished a long fourth this time.
Saimee capped a great day by winning the last two races of a long
afternoon in which there were 12 races. His wins on LONG SOCKS (6 ch.a.g
Made Of Gold - Aldybus by Regal Classic) and DUMBO (4 ch.a.g Speed Week -
Rare Tudor by Old Spice) brought his tally to 42 for the season and is now
six ahead of his nearest Sofhan Latif.
SUMMER FIESTA, who finished down the field in the RM300,000 Wira Malaysia
Cup - the richest race for Malaysian breds - last year, turned in a vastly
improved performance to win the 1600m event today.
With three wins to her name this year, the five-year-old bay gelding by
Posen out of the Covetous mare Mysterious Smile was the highest rated runner
and ran true to form, winning by three lengths.
With her seventh win in 19 starts, SUMMER FIESTA has now earned a little
over RM400,000 in prizemoney, an incredible return for a RM9,000 purchase at
the 2002 National Premier Sale.
