G Magen suspended 6 months

Apprentice Magendran s/o Gunasilan, or G Magen as he is known, has been suspended sixth months after a urine sample he provided during the first weekend of the Selangor Turf Club July Meeting returned positive to "cannabis".

The Stewards on yesterday concluded their inquiry into the above matter. Evidence was taken from App G Magen and his master, trainer Peter Tennent. Professor Tan Soo Choon, Chief Analyst of USAINS Holdings Sdn Bhd assisted the inquiry.

App G Magen pleaded guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 204(3)(ii) in that he provided a sample of his urine on 24 July 2005 at the Selangor Turf Club which upon analysis, had detected on it a prohibited substance, namely "Cannabis". App G Magen was suspended for a period of 6 months commencing 4 August 2005 and to expire on 3 February 2006, on which day he may resume riding. He was advised that prior to resuming work, he must provide a urine sample clear of any prohibited substance.
