Malaysian lifts use of
mobile phones
PENANG, 10 July 2005 |
||
The ban on the use of mobile phones in the
three Malaysian turf clubs will be lifted on July 23, 2005. This followed a
similar move by the Singapore Turf Club (SNTC) which lifted the ban on July
1.
And as with the SNTC, the ban will still be enforced in several areas which the Penang, Perak and Selangor Turf Clubs will identify in their premises for reasons of security and racing integrity. There is a proposal to bring back discount betting which was discontinued a decade ago. This was among several changes to improve the standard of horse racing in Malaysia agreed by the three Malaysian clubs at the co-ordination meeting in Penang on Friday. Pan Malaysian Pools being the agent for the clubs will have to submit a proposal to the Totalisator Board of Malaysia (TBM) before discount betting can be implemented. "All these measures hopefully will have an impact on horse racing in some way. We need to improve the racing industry," said Penang Turf Club president Dato Ong Eng Khuan, who is also the TBM chairman. Also discussed at the meeting was the current stakesmoney offered by the three clubs and providing better incentives to horse owners. Last month, SNTC announced a package of incentives which included the introduction of discount betting for the first time in the republic. |
