Mobile phone ban lifted with restrictions

KUALA LUMPUR,  22 July 2005

The Selangor, Perak and Penang Turf Clubs will lift the ban on the use of mobile phones from Saturday.

But to maintain the integrity of horse racing, the Consultative Combined Committee of the three clubs has agreed that the use of mobile phones (to be on silent/vibrate mode) in the designated areas should as far as possible be consistent amongst the three Malaysian clubs.

However, the restriction on the use of mobile phones will still be observed in certain areas designated as controlled areas in each club and racegoers are therefore advised to adhere to this prohibition.

Selangor Turf Club

The permissible areas are:

Off-course Betting Centre
Members' Box
Winners Court Restraurant
Owners' Box
Press Box
Public Air-Condition Enclosure
Track View Restraurant
All Public & Tote Areas
Corporate & Private Boxes
Trainers’ Room
Car Parks

The controlled areas where the restriction on the use of mobile phones will be observed are:

Pre-Race Holding Area
Post-Race Holding Area
Malayan Racing Association Analyst Laboratory
Horse Walk
Saddling Paddock
Parade Ring/Terrace
Race Tracks

The enclosed areas where mobile phones are also barred are:

Jockeys' Room and Lounge
Scale Room
Stipendiary Stewards & Judges Box
Stipendiary Inquiry Room
Race Commentators' Room
Race Day Control Office
CCTV Room
Tote Counters/Selling Houses
Tote Managers' Room
Veterinary Clinic
