Mark Du Plessis is returning to the jockeys’
ranks at Kranji this week after riding in Dubai, Macau and more recently New
Zealand.
The Zimbabwean born Du Plessis, 29, was formerly based in New Zealand before making his first riding stint in Singapore in 2000, landing two winners. Since then, he has enjoyed considerable success. In 2001, he was sixth in the table with 24 winners. The following two years, he booted home 55 and 66 winners to finish second to Saimee Jumaat in the championship. He was the stable rider for Malcolm Thwaites when he landed the Singapore Gold Cup on ZIRNA in 2003. Last year, he was brought back for the Gold Cup weekend and scored again on RAUL for trainer Laurie Laxon. Du Plessis has been granted a six-month Visiting Jockeys’ permit by the Singapore Turf Club until 30 June 2005. He is sponsored by South African trainer Patrick Shaw. |
