Sainul disqualified two years

SINGAPORE,  29 September 2005

Jockey Sainul Jumaat has been disqualified two years for his handling of ASIAN CLASSIC in a Class 4, Div 1 - 1200m sprint at Kranji on Sept 17.

ASIAN CLASSIC (4 b.a.g. Kenfair - Efflorence by Grosvenor) flashed home to finish fourth to TAURUS.

At the resumption of an inquiry on Wednesday, J Sainul was found guilty to a charge under MRA Rule 144.(2) punishable under MRA Rule 144.(5) in that despite being instructed to improve from the 600m and ride his mount out fully to the finish, he failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that ASIAN CLASSIC was given full opportunity of winning or obtaining the best possible placing in the race. The particulars of the charge are that:

1. from near the 600m until near the 450m, he restrained his mount from going forward when there was an opportunity and it was reasonable to do so;

2. from near the 400m until near the 200m, he failed to ride with sufficient vigour and determination;

3. near the 200m, he restrained his mount inwards when there was an opportunity to take a run and improve to his outside; and

4. over the final 100m, he failed to ride with sufficient vigour and determination.

When deciding on penalty, the Stewards took into account the nature of the charge and his record. Sainul was disqualified for a period of two years with immediate effect. He was advised of his right of appeal.
