JERAM SPECIAL, unbeaten in two previous starts over the mile, outstayed his rivals to win the second leg of the SLTC Juvenile Million Challenge over 1600m here today. Although the four-year-old brown/black Australian gelding by Tayasu Tsuyoshi out of the Protos mare Playtoss drifted out a little in the final 200m, he cleared away to win by two-and-a-quarter lengths. It was his fifth win in nine starts. FREE SPIRIT, winner of the first leg over 1400m, ran on gallantly for second in his first test over the mile. CONTINUANCE flashed home to take third placing ahead of hot favourite LIANG XIN, whose unbeaten run came to an abrupt end. JERAM SPECIAL was yet another feature race success in recent weeks for the Gold Plus Stable-trainer Frank Maynard combination. Yesterday, they won the Class 2 Dato Sir Clough Thuraisingham Memorial Trophy with DRAGON OF JERAM. The third leg of the SLTC Juvenile Million Challenge will be run over 1800m in December. The SLTC Juvenile Million Challenge offers a total of RM1 million in prizemoney and bonuses. The first five horses past the post in each race will be awarded points and at the end of the series, bonuses will be paid to the owners of the top five horses. The winner in each race will receive 12 points, and six points will be awarded for second, four points for third, three for fourth and two for points for fifth. The overall winner will receive RM175,000 bonus and a trophy. RM75,000 will be awarded to the second horse, RM50,000 to the third, RM15,000 to the fourth and RM10,000 to the fifth horse. Free Spirit currently leads the standings with 18 points. |
