New face in Singapore jockey ranks

SINGAPORE,  21 October 2005

The Singapore jockey ranks will boast a new face in 2006 with Australian Ronald Stewart being granted a freelance jockey permit commencing January 16.

Stewart, 22, is currently licensed by Racing New South Wales in Australia where he has been riding since 2001. He has ridden over 200 winners in his career to date.

In the 2002/03 season, Stewart was crowned Champion Apprentice Jockey in the competitive Sydney Metropolitan Premiership. He finished 2nd in the 2003/04 season despite missing half the season through injury.

Stewart has been granted a six-month licence from January 16 to July 16 and goes to scale at 50kgs.

The Club has also granted freelance licences to Australians James Winks and Stephen Maskiell.

Winks, 21, who is presently riding under an MRA expatriate licence, has been granted a six-month licence from January 1 and goes to scale at 53.5kgs.

Maskiell, 43, has been given an extension to his current licence and will now ride in Singapore until December 31. He goes to scale at 53kgs.
