First classic success for Bailey in QE II Cup

SINGAPORE,  24 April 2005

LIGHT OF SUCCESS gave trainer Trevor Bailey his first feature race success in Singapore when he scored a mild upset in the S$250,000 Queen Elizabeth II Cup over 2,000m at Kranji here today.

The five-year-old bay Australian gelding by Military Plume out of the Scenic mare Scentessa, fourth placing in the Chairman’s Trophy (1,800m) last time out, relished the longer trip today to score by two-and-three-quarter lengths.

The well-performed New Zealand galloper MOUNT STREET (4 br.nz.g Kilimanjaro - Real Trier by Turf Ruler) finished second in his first big test in Singapore. Singapore Gold Cup winner RAUL (5 br.a.g Hideyoshi - Whisper To Me by Beau Sovereign) was third.

Although LIGHT OF SUCCESS has won seven times before today, he has not made his mark in the classic scene. But he rose to the occasion, while the "big guns" MAYO’S MUSIC, EXAGGERATE, TERFEL, LEAD TO VICTORY and MOON SHADOW were all at sea in the soft going.
