Superb Classic's Tunku Gold Cup

KUALA LUMPUR,  13 February 2005

SUPERB CLASSIC winning the Pesta Pulau Pinang Cup last Dec 26.

SUPERB CLASSIC’s phenomenal return to form in recent months was underlined by his splendid victory in the RM500,000 Tunku Gold Cup over 1,200m at Sungei Besi here today.

Stepping up on his success in the Pesta Pulau Pinang Cup last December and over 1,200m last week, the six-year-old bay Australian gelding by Strategic out of Put Her On Ice (by It’s Freezing) completed his hattrick when he defeated the Sultan Gold Vase runner-up CHIEF EMPEROR (8 b.a.g El Moxie - Somerset Smile by Mendip Man) by half-a-length.

Last year’s winner MONEY MARKET (6 ch.saf.g Goldmark - Rita’s Charm by Northfields) could only managed third this time.

SUPERB CLASSIC raced in Australia and New Zealand as BLUEJUICE, chalking up two wins including one at Moonee Valley.

Two year’s ago, SUPERB CLASSIC’s brief career in Singapore was deemed over after chalking up two wins in six starts and was also third in the Patrons’ Bowl.

But after a 12-month layoff, he has resurrected his career in Malaysia in a great way.

SUPERB CLASSIC’s success concluded a splendid meeting for trainer Cecil Robert who repeated his treble last Saturday with three more winners today.

Earlier in the day, he was successful with BABY SUN (4 ch.nz.g Danasinga - Kaua’I by Crested Wave) and PALACE PLUME (8 b.a.g Miltary Plume - Jalique by Sovereign Slipper). And with a winner each on the second and third day, he top-scored in the meeting with eight winners.
